Contest: This little parrot dawnbird is a quick learner of language and is looking to fit in on Captain Teague's pirate ship. And as you know, pirates are a rough bunch. So, in order to win this guy over, you will have to teach him your best pirate curse/swear! The one he finds the best by midnight MT will be declared the winner.
- You can explain what your curse means; if it's not evident.
- You can use this site to help you out with vocabulary.
- Don't forget a claim!

Claim - Caw

(as in, this is me caw ... hehe, punny)

Ignore the scurvy gobshyte else ye'll find yerself dancing a duet on the bloody yardarm a'fore too long!

the word - gobshyte  ... gob refers to the mouth ... and shyte is yea. So basically someone who talks shyte. Often a person with a unpopular or even mutinous viewpoint but also used to describe boasters as they're "all talk" and nothing of value.

the other pirate words I used- scurvy a disease caused by lack of vitimin C.
dancing (a jig) on the yardarm - to be hanged from it. The yardarm was often a punishment and not a deathsentence, so someone could be tied there and it kept them out of the way but still in view so humiliation factor.
bloody - originally referring to the violent nature of a person as they were constantly bloodied in fights it became a constant swear fairly early on though.

He had learned much from you. If the captain gets angry with this bird's language; you'll have to be responsible.

He is yours.

claim Beelly Rag

"Ya bilge rat who ortin' t' be keel hauled!"
bilge rat  The bilge is the part of a ship below the floor boards of the bottom level, just above the hull... ie the darkest and most grim part of the boat.
A rat is, well, a small annoying (and to some people, scary) rodent.
Keelhauled was a form of punishment for sailors at sea. The sailor was tied to a rope looped beneath the vessel, thrown overboard, and then dragged under the keel and up the other side.
ortin Means should or should be.

Claim: Cotton (After pirates of the Carribean )
Aww so cute! *cough* I mean

"Arrr yer nazy pigeon. Ya smell like th' insides of a scurvy bilge rat!"

Nazy: drunken rogue
Pigeon: Weak, silly fellow
Bilge Rat: The bilge is the lowest level of the ship. It's loaded with ballast and slimy, reeking water. A bilge rat, then, is a rat that lives in the worst place on the ship.
Scurvy: A disease caused by vitamin deficiency that can cause problems including swollen bleeding gums, loose teeth and the opening of previously healed wounds. Used by pirates to describe someone contemptible; despicable; mean and not nice to look at!

Claim: Duff

"You useless son of a ditch"

or

"Useless ditch!"

Now I don't know if it counts as a legitimate curse, but I'll explain the backstory. It's one of the "curses" we came up with at Youth Corps to censor ourselves (like "what are ya, some kind of duff fluffer?" since fluffing the duff is what you do when you fluff up flattened green stuff like grass to prevent it from dying, but a duff fluffer sounds like an insult) when we were talking about rutted out trails since if a trail gets rutted out then it's just a useless ditch sooo ya XD
