I plondered on what to write, the pen fidgetting between her fingers as I thought. It was due tomorrow; a creative writing piece for English, and my thoughts were clouded by a most forbidable foe; writer's block too big to overcome. The head on my shoulders was stuck in a rut, and did not want to budge as I continued to look down at the blank page. Nothing. I thought of things that made me happy, sad, scared. Still nothing. My concentration was broken only by a small meow by my ankles. One of our many cats had curled behind my calves and turned its face up to me as I looked down at the creature.
His amber eyes gazed into my dark brown ones and we had a sort of connection. With a smile I reached down to pat the cat, "Go away," I told him as a gently nudged him with a knuckle, "I need to finish this," The cat padded away and left me in peace as I took a deep breath, and began to write.

"Too big." He waved a hand flippantly and glanced back down at the list. Great. Ten more entries. Oh, what a joy. "Next."

The young woman holding the monstrously huge pink cupcake dress teared up. "B-but, Mister Terence..." she sniffled.

"I said next." A single tear slipped down her cheek. He'd made another one cry. Well, that was the fourth that day. He mentally patted himself on the back; this was swiftly becoming a record. He wiggled a hand at her in a shooing motion. "Get on, get out of here. Not what I'm looking for."

Her brown eyes were huge now. "Please, if you'll only just look again..." She inched closer, one tiny step at a time. "...I think you'll find..." With her free hand, she reached out and grabbed onto the hem of his suit coat.

Dear Lord, she was touching him now. He couldn't stand it when they touched him. His upper lip curled and his eyebrows shot up into his hairline. "Madam, would you please take your hand off of my coat," he snapped and jerked away. The nerve of some of these people. Yeah, yeah, they were desperate, they needed the money, blah blah blah. She pulled back and her features scrunched as she squeezed her eyes shut. The lady clutched the dress to her chest, sniffled again, and fled down the hall. Well, that was one out of the way. "Next!" he called out again. What, were they hard of hearing?

A man strode in, all pomp and circumstance in a white suit and carrying a small, ornate basket. "Here you are, sir. I believe this is what you're looking for."

Terence accepted the proffered basket and peered into it. He nearly dropped it when several sets of eyes winked open like little lights turning on in the darkness. One of the pairs of eyes mewed. Oh merciful heavens, the man had brought in kittens. Terence shot him a suspicious look, complete with narrowed eyes. How had he known? He couldn't possibly know. No, the kittens were hardly the object of the search, but they were Terence's secret weakness. He couldn't turn down kittens. He simply adored the little monsters. He had to think fast. Think fast, think fast, think fast.

He cleared his throat and straightened, pointedly not looking at the furballs rolling around with glee in the cushioned basket. "I'll take it under consideration," he said, tone clipped. Sound formal, sound formal. Mustn't let the man know we're bluffing. "I'll need to keep this offering here for, erm, further examination and deliberation." Big words. Yes, that would make it sound more authentic.

Oh, crap. The man didn't look convinced. He raised an eyebrow and clasped white-gloved hands behind his back. "According to the flyer..." - shit, he was calling in the flyer on this one - "...you would know the instant you saw it." Well, yes, that was true, but really... "So why take it under consideration?"

Terence cast a glance down at the kittens. A little black and white terror looked up at him and mewled in that adorable manner kittens have, that heart-meltingly sweet manner fit to break the strongest of men into a cooing, simpering mess. He could not give them up. "I..." He cleared his throat again, gave the man his patented unimpressed look, complete with lips stretched into a thin line and one eyebrow cocked, and resumed. "My decision holds. I will take it under consideration. You will be notified of my decision once everything has been made clear."

The gentleman smoothed his carefully coiffed black hair down with one hand, patting it into place. "You'll forgive me if I don't believe you."

All right, enough. "No, I shan't. Out."

The man had the audacity to adopt an incredulous look. "Beg pardon?"

"Out! Go away, get out, shoo! Scat! I'm done with you!" Terence whipped around and strode back to his desk, where he promptly flung himself into his office chair in the most dramatic way possible and threw his feet up onto the desk. He settled the basket into his lap and bestowed a blistering glare upon the rude fellow. Said rude fellow finally took the hint and left, clearly none too pleased about the business. Terence watched him go, then flicked a finger at the door. It slammed shut and locked itself. A mew from one of the kittens drew his attention back. He couldn't resist a smile. "Hi, you little hellspawn. That was close, wasn't it?" He wiggled a finger at the tiny creatures; one sunk her claws into it. He winced but chuckled. "Evil little things."

The gift for his master could wait. He still had a few more entrants to go, after all. And after dealing with that much stupidity... Well, damn it, he deserved a break. With kittens. Demons that they were.

The wolves searched. They ran on, hunting for deer and buffalo in their wake. They were all hungry, ready to eat, and fierce in their ways of said hunt. They were swift movers as they enclosed on a rather large buck. Most wolf packs would go for something smaller or weaker, but this pack was full of strong, powerful wolves who could take on more, and wanted a challenge. Except for one. One little wolf was different than the rest.

Fagan ran behind the rest of the pack, not quite as fast, not nearly as big. He was fully grown yet little bigger than a playful pup, and yet he was determined to meet up to the rest of his pack. Fagan's mother had named him for his features, thus his name meant, "Little ardent one."

As he followed the rest of his pack, he tried to help take down the large buck. He was excited. Maybe he would actually kill something today. His first kill. But as the pack fought to take down the creature, Fagan seemed to get weaker. For the rest of his pack this buck seemed to be nothing. But for Fagan this buck was..

"Too big..." he whispered quietly to himself as he backed off. The rest of his pack fought on, and he seemed to go unnoticed as he backed away from the 12 point buck. He was always unnoticed and left out of things anyway, so he slowly kept backing away. When he was far enough out of the circle of fighting wolves, he took off in the opposite direction, running through the snow blindly.

On he ran for what seemed like years, but was in reality probably only a few minutes. He eventually reached the bank of some strange body of water. He looked up and around him. He hadn't noticed he had been running in a direction he'd never been, and he found himself lost.

He stared in awe at the giant trees around him, the beautiful snowfall and the water bank. The water seemed to go on forever. This must have been the ocean or some sort of sea, because he'd never seen so much water before.

"Hello!" called a small voice that popped up from the water. All of a sudden Fagan found himself drenched in cold water and a creature in front of him who he'd never seen before. He jumped back in cold and in fear.

He looked around, shivering, and asked quietly, "W-w-who are you?" and hid his face from the little creature.

The little creature giggled. "My name is Rónán! It means little seal!" He said the words happily and smiled at Fagan.

"G..Go away," Fagan said quietly, scared of the seal creature in front of him.

Rónán tilted his head. "Hey I'm not gonna hurtcha. I just thought you were like me."

Fagan shook his head. "I don't understand. How am I like you?" He asked, shivering with cold still.

Rónán smiled. "Well you're an adult right? But you're tiny. So am I! I'm smaller than the rest of my family but I'm fully grown. That's why my name means little seal. Because I'm little."

Fagan slowly began to understand, and inched back towards the water. "You're not gonna splash me again if I come back over there are ya?" He asked.

Rónán giggled. "No silly! That was an accident. Sorry about that by the way," he mumbled.

A fish popped out of the water next to the little seal creature, and smiled at Fagan. Rónán looked to the little fish and then back at Fagan, and smiled softly. "Fagan, this is Fishel. His name means little fish! Fishel, Fagan! He's new here."

Fishel smiled and nodded. "Pleased to meet you," he said elegantly.

Fagan nodded. Rónán began again, but before he could speak another voice came from behind him. "And what about us, Rónán? Are you going to forget to introduce us to him, too?"

"Yes I would quite like to meet him myself."

Fagan turned and looked up. An eagle and a hawk sat side by side in a tree. Next to them sat two other birds, quieter yet all the same, interested in Fagan. They simply nodded.

Rónán flushed with embarrassment. "Umm..Right. Fagan the eagle up there is Argo. His name means little eagle. The hawk is Gavin, whose name also means little hawk. Next to them are Marlon, the little falcon, and Colman, the little dove."

Fagan nodded to all of them. He started realizing a pattern in their names. They all meant "little something, and that something was their species name. As he looked at all of them, they had one thing in common. They were each smaller than the rest of their species typically were, but they seemed happy here. He turned back to Rónán in surprise and confusion.

Rónán raised an eyebrow at the look the other was giving him, and smiled gently. "You see Fagan, here we're a family of different species, but we all have something in common. We are smaller than the rest of our species. We've all come here to live peacefully in our smaller state, and we're happy here."

As he spoke, more animals appeared, and he announced them one by one to Fagan. "Vachel, the little cow," he said quietly, and Vachel was indeed a very small cow. Vachel nodded shyly, and said, "H-hello," to Fagan, standing and watching as others appeared. A small deer came up next to him. "Oisín, the little deer." Oisín happily wagged his tiny tail at Fagan and looked around at his friends.

Two ravens of equal size flew down to a tree near the other birds. "Brendan and Fechín. Both of their names mean little raven, and they're twins, as well." Brendan nodded and Fechín cawed down at Fagan, both smiling their peace upon him.

A small bear approached shyly, and introduced himself on his own. "I'm Orson! My name means little bear!" He said happily.

Next came a lion. A very small lion with a full mane, so he was obviously fully grown, and he had a tiny cat next to him. He approached regally, and said just as elegantly, "I. Am Leib. And this is my friend, Kotek. My name means little lion. His...little cat." He sounded dramatic in his tone of voice yet regal all the same and he nodded in an elegant fashion toward Fagan.

Kotek looked up at the sky. "Look up," he said, and Fagan did so. Kotek spoke. "That one little star in the sky. He's the only star we see around here, and we named him Sterling, which means little star. He seems to be watching over us and he is part of our family too, because he's a small star, just as the rest of us are small." He looked back to Fagan.

Fagan turned in a full circle slowly, and looked at all the small animals around him. They were all like him and he felt complete. He looked back to the seal he had originally met, who smiled and once again spoke.

"Fagan..there's one thing you haven't seen yet." The little seal and fish nodded in unison and Fagan turned behind him. What he saw almost made him cry in joy. Four wolves, all the same size as himself, approached in their small pack. They were a family. A family he could call his own and that he could be part of.

They each introduced themselves as wolves with names meaning, "Little wolf." The names Honiahaka, Kuckunniwi, Cuán, and Faolán stuck to his mind as they each spoke to him. He looked around him and sat, astonished yet very happy.

Here he was home, and it was here he would stay forever, with the four wolves he came to know as his family, and the rest of his friends of other species always being with him through everything. He was happy here, and he never went unnoticed or ignored again.

calamity crouched, tensed and petrified, at the back of her small burrow. 'i hate my name... i hate my name...' the words ran through her head. at the rough hew edges of the entrance, a fearsome snout scratched and scuffled, digging away at the edges. a blood red eye illuminated the burrow for a brief moment."Go away!" she screeched feebly, to no avail.
the demon had popped out of nowhere, and was soon on her tail, with her fleeing before it, having evaluated it as 'Too Big to fight.' she now cowered, shuddering, at the back of the cave, her last refuge, the only obstacle between her and imminent death.
Huge paws scuffled at the entrance, tearing away huge chunks of dirt.
She screamed again, the sound echoing around the hollow dirt cavern. Before she knew what was happening, huge paws grabbed her from behind. she struggled fruitlessly, but eventually stopped, and slowly, from fear and exhaustion, her mind went blank and her vision dark, and she blacked out.

sorry if that was long... XDDDD
