I try to vary them, but in my opinion the first-come, first-serve ones are actually the hardest to get because you have to be on at the exact time that they are uploaded and have a very quick trigger finger, so to speak.
Yes, breeding is free and you can find the months for each species in the Springs Calendar journal. All breeding seasons occur on the first Saturday of each month at 1:00pm MT.
