I jerk a little at the sudden chomping on my hand and look up, seeing the pretty Prarie Gryphon that's decided to break me from my thoughts. I smile and move my hand to let her eat the stalk of grain. "Well you're a pretty little girl, aren't you? You look like a foggy meadow with the sun shining through." I keep the smile on my face as I reach up to pet her a little.
Casimiro moves to inspect her as well, sniffing around her as she nips at him and me both a little. I can't help snickering at her for being a nibbler, and roll over and sit up. "Well then I guess we'll have to name her, eh Cas?" Casimiro smiles and suddenly tackles her, which takes her off-guard but then she tackles him back and nibbles on his ear, and they wrestle in the grass for awhile.
As they play, I look through my book of names. I come across a few names that I like but ultimately cross all but two of them out. I furrow my eyebrows, watching her for a moment and then looking at one of the names. "Arden..means 'eagle valley.'" I look up at her again and watch for a moment before looking down at the other name. "Haylie..means 'hay field.'"
After awhile I groan and cross off Haylie. "That took longer than it should have.." At my groaning Casimiro and the prarie gryphon stop and look at me. "I think I'll call you Arden. It means 'eagle valley' in English. Somehow you look like an 'eagle valley' type of girl to me." I smile and she makes a small noise, snapping her beak open and shut once, before she resumes to play with Cas.
I smile..Arden. Eagle Valley. Why did that work so well?
