Hmm I guess I'll try for this, though my entry may not be as elaborate LOL.

So my favorite sport is the Ten Meter Diving competition. I have to say that I've never watched the Olympics before, so I don't have much knowledge on Olympic sports. I actually only started watching tonight because South Korea was competing against America in women's volleyball and I wanted them to win.

But I watched the whole thing tonight, and so far I have to say I'm loving the diving. xD As I understand it, the contestants jump from a 10 Meter diving board at about three stories high, and based on their formation, the way they enter the pool, and how much of a splash they make, they get more or less points. The bigger your splash, for example, the less points you get.

As it is, I just watched the semi-finals tonight and Chen Roulin won by a long shot and won a gold medal for it. It's her fourth year in a row winning the gold now, so I'm expecting her to win at the Finals as well. However, since I've never watched the Olympics until now, I don't know how the Finals will work and can't get ahead of myself.

I'm predicting that she'll win but hey I could be wrong.

As for why it's my favorite? I think it's simply because I'm a fish out of water, and I love to dive. I've been swimming since I was two so I have a deep connection with water, and I think that's ultimately why I like the Diving so much so far.

I also enjoy the Hurdle competition but I guess I can only enter one. But I do love watching those guys jump hurdles so easily. My mom actually made fun of me tonight because I'm only 4'11" so I have really short legs, and she told me she could never see me jumping hurdles and told me they'd come up to my neck LOL. //SOB

Anyway, that's about all I know right now but I am enjoying it. I'm currently watching Brazil VS. Japan for Women's Volleyball and I'm enjoying it. XD

The semi finals were earlier in the day, then the finals were in the evening. :3
I know because the Canadian that was second in the semis had a bad first dive in the finals which killed her chance at a medal. So sad. :C

My favourite sport from the olympics must be and will always be cycling. Specificaly mens' cyling - road. There are 2 events: road race and time trial. For the Road Race all competitors start together. The first rider to cross the finish line wins gold. For the shorter Time Trial, the riders start at 90-second intervals and the winner is the rider with the fastest time over the course. Great stamina, astute strategy and powerful acceleration are essential to success in both events, with teamwork also playing a big part in the Road Races.
The Road Race starts on The Mall before the riders head south-west through the city. They then cross the River Thames at Putney Bridge and continue out through Richmond Park, Bushy Park and past Hampton Court Palace.
The Surrey section of the course incorporates several circuits of a challenging loop around Box Hill (nine for the men’s Road Race, two loops for the women’s), before the riders head north through Leatherhead, Esher, Kingston-upon-Thames, Richmond Park and back to The Mall. The Time Trial starts and finishes at Hampton Court Palace in south-west London, and incorporates sections of Richmond, Kingston-upon-Thames and Surrey. Both events are held over a single lap.
Road Cycling events are extremely tactical. As well as the immense strength and stamina athletes need to complete the course, the winning athletes are those who have judged their pace and positioning to the smallest detail. Without the great reserves of stamina required, especially in the Road Race, riders will get left out of any breakaway groups and be left back with the main pack. Races can also be crowded in places – bumps and crashes are not uncommon, and athletes need to stay alert to keep out of trouble.

This year was special for me, since we got a special rider (: My country is slovakia, a small country in Europe. Since we are small, our sportsmen are not so good as others. But with this person, out whole country was excited to see the Olympics. He was in Tv, in the newspapers, he was all over the place. His name is Peter Sagan. Since he got a very good score in Tour De France (I watched it, it was awesome!!!), we all hoped for a good placement ^-^ in the last part of Tour de France, he was in the 1st big group in front - the breakaway, around 5th, 6th, but then at the end he went all out and ended up 3rd!!! though since he is bad at going uphill and had worse placement at these tracks, his overall placement was lower, but he kept the green vest the whole time!!!!I watched the cycling on saturday 28th, it was great ^-^ Sagan was 34, which is great ^-^ I can't forget to watch the medal event on the 1st of august ....I talked too much xD

I enjoy many of the Olympic sports, including Taekwondo, Equestrian, and Rhythmic Gymnastics. My favorite has to be Archery though. I enjoy this specific sport because I am an archer and wish that I could one day be in the Olympics for this (with a LOT more practice), and not many people are even aware this is a sport. The way it works is that the bowmen do their best to get the most arrows as close as possible to the center of the target, which is seventy meters or almost 230 feet away, using a recurve bow. The one with the most arrows wins. You can compete as a single person or in a team of three.

-Taekwondo
I enjoy this sport because I love karate, and in general martial arts. I would totally get my butt kicked though. (Not that I'm a pushover, I am a quite formidable fighter and have taken down many people who are above my belt level in sparring.)

-Equestrian

-Rhythmic Gymnastics
This sport takes unbelievable natural skill, a wide range of acquired skills, and serious hardcore training. I have nothing but respect for the women who do this and I love watching them. I'm so secretly jealous of them and wish I had at least half their grace. They are good athletes.

My favourite Summer Olympic sport is the Men's Discus throw. It is a part of the Athletics/Track and Field competition but it has always been my favourite let it be a small part of a large event. It is where men and women throw a heavy disc and try to throw it father than anyone else. It is my favourite for many reasons one being because it is rather deceiving. Many people think ok throw a disc and throw it farther than anyone else. But it is so much more. The disc weighs around 4lbs and you have to run in a circle of certain diameter as well. It consists of 6 movements and is an ancient sport. It makes me feel intact with the ancient spectators watching every movement, every muscle stretching, the passion and strength put into every throw. I absolutely love to watch it!
Far as who will win erm.. I will go ahead and say U.S.A as I am rooting for my country
And it is played Aug 6-7 the 6th being qualifying round and 7th final

Claim: Courage

My favorite event within the Olympics has to be swimming, or more specifically the diving, as I just think there is so much talent involved in executing the perfect dive! I am from the UK so the diver to look out for is Tom Daley and his partner, Pete Waterfield. I will be supportive of my home country and say that I think Tom Daley shall (hopefully) win but there is another country to look out for!

The country to watch at the diving events has to be China who won, in the 2008 Beijing games, seven of the eight diving events and only lost in the Men's platform which was won by an Australian. China has so much talent when it comes to diving and win almost all of the medals and therefore I think, as a country in whole, they shall win the diving.

In total there are eight events in the diving (Synchronised means two divers diving the same routine together at the same time):

Men's 3m Springboard
Men's 10m Platform
Men's Synchronised 3m Springboard
Men's Synchronised 10m Platform
Women's 3m Springboard
Women's 10m Platform
Women's Synchronised 3m Springboard
Women's Synchronised 10m Platform

The moves you can get in diving include:

Forward Group: This is when the diver faces the front of the board and when the dive begins the diver spins towards the water.

Backward Group: This is when the diver faces the back of the board and when the dive begins the diver spins towards the water.

Reverse Group: The diver stands at the front of the board and spin towards the board when the dive is going to take place.

Inward Group: The diver stands on the end of the board and spins toward the board.

Twisting Group: A dive that includes a twisted movement is included within the twisted group. Twists can include: forwards, backwards, reverse and inwards twists.

Arm stand Group: The diver starts in a handstand position on the edge of the platform before they dive.

The divers are judged by a panel of seven judges and they rated on a scale from 0 to 10. To get the highest marks the judges would look for perfect execution on how the swimmers enter the water (little splash caused), how they well and high they jump off the board and how well the diver moves through the air. The divers which achieve all of these things shall get the highest marks and the ones who don't shall get few marks.

I like diving because I love to watch the different moves that are preformed in this event. All the divers make it look so effortless and smooth to watch and yet it is so complex and intricate. This is why I like it! Plus it is so much less tense then the track and field events which are too nerve wracking for me!

Fencing is my favorite Olympic sport.

Fencing is today's form of sword fighting. It brings old sword fighting tactics together with safer, less deadly, equipment to make a fun sport :) the whole idea is to touch your opponent with your foil/ect.

Fencing is a sport that takes place in rounds called bouts. each bout takes place on a strip or "piste". The fencers both start at the on guard lines which are both equally spaced from the center line. on the ref's signal the take the on guard position. when the bout starts the fencers move back and forth down the strip where there are also two zones which indicate the end of the strip if the fencer is to go over the out of bounds line with both feet the opponent is given the point. When fencing there are certain areas where a hit is count or where it invalid. these change depending on your weapon.
Also, depending on your weapon, you can only gain points by touching with the tip of the weapon. This is for both foil and epee. In sabre you may get a point by getting your opponent with any part of your blade.
The fencers also wear protective gear. which is a good thing considering they are waving around foils and such. Their gear consists of a glove, mask, and jacket. on top of the jacket you have a wire mesh which help to pinpoint who made a correct touch.

Olympic fencing consists of 10 events. half for men and half for women. These events, though, are not just individual events, which consist of foil, epee, and sabre. there are also team events, which consist of only foil and epee
In the Olympics the first fencer to get 15 touches wins, but there is also a time limit of 4 minutes for the foil and saber, while 5 min bouts for the Epee. So, if neither fencer reached 15, the person with the most points at the end of the time limit wins
In the team events, the team to win 45 points wins. Or, like the regular bouts, the team with the most points at the end of the round wins
In the case of a tie, the match then is extended my 1 min.

Fencing is my favorite sport for a couple of reasons
1. its one of two sports I understand. Fencing and Baseball
2. I participate myself :) (only my second year though...)
3. ive always loved the sport. its one of those things I always wished I could do. you read all those books and the characters have amazing swordsmanship. somehow it got put in my brain that it was one of the best sports. and I am glad it did, otherwise I would never have given it a shot :3

My favorite olymic event is the Fencing. Fencing has 10 events in the olymics, 5 for the men and 5 for the women, with the individual events with the foil, sabre and epee and team events in the foil and epee (foil and sabre for men)
Fencing is swordfighting basically, with the objective being to get the first touch (be the first to touch to oponent with your weapon. The first to score 15 points wins. If none has scored 15 in the time limit, then the fencer with the most points wins.
For team events, the first to score 45 points or the leading team wins. (The fencers alternate after a select amount of points or time, 5 touches or 3 minutes etc.)
At the referees signal, the fencers assume the onguard position (bending there legs and showing as little of themselves as possible to the opponent.)
If the match ends in a tie, the match is extended by 1 minute. the first to get a touch wins.
The place where they fight (the piste) is 15 yrds and 1 foot long, with a total length of 19 yards and 2 feet. the fencers start on two lines called the on guard lines, on either side of the central line. on the ends of the piste, there are two colored zones, which indicate that the fencer is getting to close to the out of bounds line. if the fencer goes over this line with both feet, a point goes to the opponent.
If two fencers score a hit at the same time, the attacker is given the point (in foil and sabre) and both opponents in Epee. There are only certain zones where a hit is considered valid, which are different for each weapon used.
The weapons are equipped with electronic tips and the fencer wears a special outfit that indicate when a the opponent get a hit in. For the epee and the foil, hits can only be made with the tip of the blade, but for the sabre, any part of the blade can make a hit. Fencers wear lots of protective equipment, such as a mask, gloves and chest protector, which are wired to detect hits.
I believe that Valentina Vezzali will win the Gold medal. Just look at all her stats! [link] Lol

The reason that this is my favorite event is because I do fencing myself, and I hope to get good enough to compete one day in the olympics.
