Description
My World is intended to be a series, but who knows when I'll get sick of it and give up.For those who don't know, I consider myself a writer rather than an artist.
I'd love to develop my skills well enough to serve my own evil desires as a writer, but for the time being it's just for fun.
One of the things I'd love to do, is to build a 'world' around some of the characters that were a part of the street level underground in the 90's. I usually refer to it as the Midnight Sons continuity, because most of the characters were part of it.
So, anyway, I thought it'd be fun to do fanart of each of the characters I'd love to use in my little continuity.
Kicked off with Ghost Rider, in a transitional state, which is why if you check out his mug you can see the man behind the skull.
I'm not really fussed which Ghost Rider it is, but I'd lean toward Ketch rather than Blaze.
This particular take, like most of my drawings, is my own normalization of the character. I wanted to keep the big collar, but went lower key than tight pants, and massive shoulder pads.

Cheers!
Something maybe a little less obvious than other tempting flamey and skully Ghost Rider fan art.

Thanks! I doubt I'll get around to drawing ALL the characters I'd use in 'my world,' but hopefully I'll get through a few. It's been fun drawing characters I haven't drawn before!

All you have to do to make someone cool is light their head on fire.

The chains only enhance the extreme cool of his flaming head!

Very cool idea! I like the fact that you don't use "comic book anatomy" in your drawings. It makes the whole thing look more real. Mixing Dan's skull with his real face is also a very nice idea, though I think the skull is not visible enough.

Thanks, yeah. If I have something that makes my drawings interesting, it's probably the heavy blacks, and my own interpretation of reality, I guess.
I don't really think a character like Ghost Rider would wear skin tight pants, with a giant spikey jacket.
So, I try to approach it like that, and draw from life.
Yeah, it isn't perfect, but I liked the idea of alluding to some sort of transitional point.
It actually reminds me a lot of a Ghost Rider action figure I saw years ago, that had a glow in the dark skull head, which was that weird whitey colour, with really rich solid orange and yellow flames moulded behind it, and it was on purple card. Something about it was really dynamic, so that's sort of where I went with this. On my now infamous burnt monitor, the background is a really dark purpley grey.
I found making the skull more visible spoiled the balance too much. It's not the most ideal way to do it. I sort of wish I went for a transparent face, with the skull beneath. I think, visually, that would've been really interesting, and a more logical idea.
I ended up putting the skull on top with the thought process that, at least in Blaze's case, it was a demon that took control of his body, so it wouldn't necessarily come from within. That, and the skull usually seems to balance with the body well, so it's not as small as an actual skull.

That's the artist's prerogative summed up in just a couple of words!

NIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!!
I'd like to see "Ghost Rider" completely, tho. Care to try a different layout?
All the gray aereas work nicely here.
Sweet!

Eh, I thought about it, but the ST are there behind him, so I'm hoping as I do more characters, it won't be as noticable. Hopefully people will get used to the fact that the characters are standing in front of their names!
Thanks! I guess I'm a grey kinda guy. I seem to use it all the time.

I get it. I like the way you do things.
Makes me feel like everything is a real object, something you can hold in your hands, but still, your illustrations are 2d.
It is kinda... um... nostalgic (I don't know if this word exists in english and I don't know if it means what I want to say so don't judge me too hard ).
I like it a lot.

Thanks a lot!
The 2D with depth style of Mike Mignola really encouraged me to keep trying this kind of stuff. I like minimalistic styles, which generally are very retro (nostalgic).
I think I know what you're getting at, in that it's nostalgic in not over producing or over glamorising, like a lot of modern comic artists, especially after the 90's. That's definitely something I wanted to do, so, thanks!

I freaking knew the missing ST would get brought up!
I typed it and then put it behind him and thought about trying something different, but I decided people would figure it out. BIG MISTAKE!
Nah, thanks!
Yeah, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do until I drew the face and liked it a lot... but knew I had to have the skull in there SOMEHOW. So, I guess I went with the Zarathos/Johnny Blaze logic of the demon emerging.
