It wasnt just Snape calling Lily a mudblood. He was turning into something dark. She realized that. She tried confronting him about it but he just ignored her. The only reason he turned good at all was because he wanted to save her. Not her son or her husband. I like Snape, but I hardly feel bad for him.

I know all of that!!... but when you are in teenage age... you explore yourself and the world around you... trying to find whats best for you... the truth is that Snape thought dark magic is great and all that...and how to expect from a confused sixteen-year old boy that thinks rationally?!
And ofcourse Liliy saw "his dark side"; she was also reasonable, and good to him, yes... but on the other hand I think she might wanted to get rid of him, because her other friends "filled her head" about how bad he is and >how can she hang out with unpopular boy?<... he tried to apologize, but she did not care, she just let it go... (I would never do that to a best friend,I would listen, although we disagree on some things ~)
but, after some time they could talk about everything...people change;
I`m sad because their nice friendship ended "so bitterly"

I'm just saying that I understand why Lily would be upset. As for Lily being unforgiving. Lily too was just a teenager and she was humiliated in front a large crowd by her supposedly best friend by calling her a racist name. Wouldnt Snape know for a fact that mudblood would break her heart? Hermione had to deal with that torment, whats to say that Lily didnt either? Lily died when she was 20 or 21. She might not have gotten the chance to forgive. It takes time for deep wounds to heal.
