Before Monty, heck before Black Ops 2 came along, there was no timelines. No different universes.
My knowledge of the zombies storyline may be a bit rusty though.Β
But from what I remember: Edward was NOT Samantha's childhood friend. In the original timeline, Richtofen went insane thanks to him coming in contact with the MPD. And from what the radios told us in Der Riese, Call of the Dead and Moon (there may be others), Maxis treated Richtofen as just a subordinant. He was a strict man and very hard to please. The only person he showed his softer side too was Samantha and Sophia.Β
Richtofen's start of darkness was when Maxis didn't mass produce the DG-2. And he was even belittled, when Maxis brushed off his discovery of teleportion. Heck even in the radio's in Call of the Dead, Richtofen didn't even recognise Dempsey. Which makes sense because they never met before.
In the new timeline, after the Earth got blown to hell, Samantha went to a time period where Nikolai, Dempsey, Takeo and Richtofen all met for the first time. Even Maxis himself had shown confusion on who Samantha was, because he didn't have a daughter in that dimenion. And after all of them got to Agartha, Samantha told them what had happened in her dimension. Which starts the entire plot of Black Ops III zombies.Β

While the Origins characters are the ones that appear in Black Ops 3, the Origins story shows how they were forced to side with a psychopath like Richtoffen. It almost makes me sick. While Origins was really where it all started, its characters were chosen to replace the 1.0 characters in BO3

The Origins story takes place in a different dimension. Richtofen was not a psychopath. He's a different man when compared to 1.0; a very different man. But that doesn't mean they're different people.
And as Monty said - or something similar; "When you look into a mirror, you see a reflection of yourself staring back. That doesn't mean the reflection is another person. It's still you."

But when you think about it, really, the Origins versions of each character are essentially part of what I imagine would be Group 935's "Cloning experiment."
Ultimately the point I'm trying to raise is that Element 115 created the zombies, and it's up to four heroes, (although I wouldn't necessarily consider Richtoffen to be a "hero") to try and clean up whatever mess 935 made.

I'm just saying: You don't find it somewhat out of character that Origins is where it all began, but rather than using the 1.0 character models, they replaced them with the ones used in BO3?
And it's my understanding that the entire story is part of Samantha's imagination, but it all comes true, almost as if she has the ability to predict the future or write a fairy tale and make it all come true.
