My favorite past time is photographing Bentley. And once you get him to sit for one, he really does enjoy sitting for a lot more. You can get him to pose for hours, it's hilarious.At the same time, I'm not saying I'm good at it, I can't even figure out how to get this red tint issue resolved. Well, at least not until recently.
This particular photo shows off my favorite Bentley feature; his (what we call) "chups"
They droop in this really funny way and make his nose really expressive.
Ah I thought I'd share. If you guys like him, I can share more. I think I've taken about 1500 photographs of Bentley over the past year or so.
Incase you're wondering. Bentley is my 1 year old English Setter and among the best of friends you could ever ask for.

OMG lol you call the droops 'chups?' Well, we have a lovely mongrel doggie called Cassie. And she has sort of droopy bits too and we call 'em 'Chubs'!!! LMAO!. i didn't know anyone else called those droppy bits anthing untill now! Awesome. Beautifil Dog btw.

Your dog is absolutely adorable. I currently have an 11 year old English Setter, called Jake, who has brown spots instead of blue. They're so incredibly dim sometimes

Absolutely gorgeous pup and young to be so pretty,too. Fairly large lips for a setter,though,what're his bloodlines (if you have papers on him) ?
As for the photography.... All I can think of is you're getting some sort of odd coloration from the sun (or your flash) making his skin reflect through his coat. As white as he is,I'd be very surprised if he isn't -very- pink under all of that fuzz. Have you tried a darker setting? The light seems to be right on top of him... maybe if it were closer to sunset he'd come out more white.
The only reason I have anything to support that theory is because if you look at the black splotches (and dear lord is that puppy splotchy! ^^) there's tint to them too. Black fur doesn't always mean black skin beneath,after all.
^^ In any case,hey. It's a decent picture. You may be criticizing yourself,claiming you aren't very good at it,but I'll completely disagree with you on that (

Dear -gods- he has a gorgeous father. His mom's fairly pretty,too. I'm not completely fond of her show pose,though. His dad looks a bit more balanced.
Was the pup out of his last litter? Most english setter breeders I've seen usually stop their dogs breeding around 7 or 8 (if my math's correct,that's how old William was when he sired Bentley).
Do you guys intend showing the pup?

not showing him... he's just a super spoiled pet is all. sleeping on my feet ON THE BED as we speak for that matter... hehe
i grew up with setters, we had 3 when I was a kid... but they were field setters, and this time I wanted a show setter.. so I researched william and wanted one of his pups. william is incredible...... just absolutely stunning. we're going to go visit him at some point in the new year!
what's your background with setters? not everyone is familiar with the breed...

I was miserable as a kid. When I was 13 or so,I started researching dogs in general and educating myself about them. Eventually that started broadening to most mammals,and it continues to go on,fish being my current choice of study (reptiles will most likely end up being the next in-depth subject I jump into).
However,my first dog was a shih tzu/english setter mix (the mother being the setter,white with orange spots). Next to my admiration of hounds and herders,I fall for setters,retrievers and the majority of the giant breeds (hence my great dane). I will say I'm more familiar with white and red irish setters than most of the other setter varieties,though.
I've talked to a few breeders,but mostly I've just run into a lot of setters and sheer mass amounts of book learning. I forced myself to memorize nearly every single show standard via the akc and ckc... so hey. ^^ I have to put it to use sometimes.
And yes. ...William is quite possibly one of the most gorgeous dogs I've -ever- seen. This includes that one liver spotted bitch that won Westminster a few years back (1999,I think,though for the life of me I can't remember her name). It's also obvious that he's actually -happy- in the show ring,and I've seen so many dogs that are just so... miserable.

Interesting dog shot! That the composition focuses on the muzzle is very appropriate for this breed. I like that we get the tips of the feathered ears in the picture as well, as they're a trademark as well. Gorgeous markings. I'm a cat person, but follow the dog shows on TV.

If you cant get white balance on your camera, try using "Image>Adjustments>Auto Levels" in photoshop, that should do the trick 
I prefer levels cos it sorts out underexposure and stuff to a certain extent too

I have read some of the comments regarding the red tint, and I would agree that it is almost certainly down to the white balance, a very easy fix, depending on what camera you have. I would suggest to use the 'custom white balance' on your camera (obviously providing you have it) take a picture of a white sheet of paper, and use that as your profile for your custom white balance. easy as that! If you need any other help, let me know!

Hello there Angelo!
I already explained you what was causing the red tint in your photos. It is extremely easy to correct with the "adjust colour balance" tool. All you have to do is to slide the "magenta/green" slider more to the green side, in shadows, midtones and highlights. Try it for 5 minutes and you'll get the results preety fast.
Anyway, since it's better to avoid the magenta cast right out of the camera, than you should check your white balance adjustment in your camera. Put it into automatic mode, and if it still delivers magenta images, then use the WB presets according to the light conditions ("sunny" preset in bright sunny days, etc...).
Perhaps I'll use one of your photos in my new Constructive Critique Project journals. Who knows?

I've fixed the camera with the help of a guy that i met, he totally knew his photography. apparently some other friend of mine borrowed my camera and altered the settings and didn't change them back.. so since then every shot i've taken has looked ... red.

Eheheheh. I'll certainly use one of your photos. The objective of the project is to write complete critiques so that the viewers may learn how to analyze a photo, otherwise I'd obviously post the critique in the respective photo page. Yours will give a good example of color casts.
