OoOOoOoOOOh so good..! The wrinkles and creases are amazing.
What do you think of Sculpey, SuperSculpey and Sculpey Firm? Have you ever used it?
I'm doing a stopmotion shortfilm as my graduation project... and I've thinking that my puppets bodies (except the clothing which will be made of fabrics and whatnot) will be of that material, but I've never worked with it, so I'm not sure what the difference is. Of course, you might not use it, being a pro and all but maybe you might know something. I'll stop rambling now... sorry. Thanks!

Thank you!!for that I would probably use super sculpey firm because I take it you live in a hot climate and reguler sculpey does not do well as far as handeling in warm conditions. Also it's good to use a wire structure underneath. But if you are handling it alot I would recommend Aves 2 part epoxy[link] for the torso legs and arms and sculpey for the head since all of the part will be moved quite a bit and it hold up really well and will not crack, which the polymer clay might.I hope this helps,If you have anymore questions don't hesitate to ask.

Phew! You don't think I'm a stalker then!!!
Hot weather, check! Although lately here in Guatemala it's been humid and rainy... tropical storms and whatnot.
Yes, the wire structure was already on my list. Definite. It will be what will hold the whole thing. And I read somewhere that I should put magnets on the feet to hold them to surfaces and have less issues with standing up and strange poses. It will make it more steady.
I was thinking that mostly faces would be of sculpey. Most characters I've designed so they have long clothes (yey) so I don't have issues with bending and such. What will bend will be beneath the fabric which will be a foam body. Someone said that Sculpey bend and flex is a really good product I could try on hands but I'm not sure yet. Have you tried it yourself?
So I buy this 2 part epoxy... and I spread it on top of the sculpey? Or it's like a clay on it's own? Are these Aves products better to work with than the Sculpey? I will have to order this from a foreign country anyway so I want to buy the best one for my purposes. I've never used Sculpey, it's just what I see people use most here.
Thanks again for replying!!!

Oh heavens no,I like the idea with the magnets, that's very clever.I've heard of the Super sculpey bend and flex but I have never used it.I've just had issues of breakage with reguler sculpey, don't get me wrong it's a very good product and it's pretty tough stuff. I was thinking about the Aves 2 part epoxy for the arms legs and torso over just the wire frame because this suff is really tuff stuff.Aves epoxy is like the consistency of firm clay and you mix it in a 1 to 1 ratio and it will harden up within a couple of hours without baking.I think the super sculpey flex and bend would work great for your purpose.I think once you start using sculpey I think you'll really enjoy it and be addicted. If you can post some pictures of you project, now you have me curious!!

Best of Luck,
Lonnie

I will be posting some work soon enough!!! I'm just finishing up with the basic character design.
It's a very big project that has me up in a turmoil (and most of my close friends and family too ). My friends will help with constructing the backgrounds, and some of them did the voices. Thankfully the script is done and the voices of the characters have already been recorded so that's one thing to check off my endless list. My father is thinking how to do riggings to hold the characters because in my story two characters need to float... talk about complicating my life. And another friend is waiting for the puppets to sow on the clothes.
I love drawing and painting and I've had tons of experience but I've never really done anything of animation, my biggest love and interest, so it's all quite frightening. I've been having so many second thoughts and self doubts but that's just on the bad days... on the good ones I think I'll be the greatest animator ever and then I come back to earth again and the rollercoaster begins yet again. Now with internet I've been reading so many tutorials, tips, advice (magnets, jijiji), and talking to such kind people that want to help... it's a blessing, really.
We'll see how it turns out. I'll send for the super sculpey firm and a batch of bend and flex to see how it turns out. Someone mentioned using the ultralight sculpey as a base so that my puppets won't be too heavy. I'll just have to experiment and see what works for me.
Thanks so much for your help Lonnie! It's really been priceless to be able to discuss this stuff with you. I'll keep you posted on the progress and let you know when I upload anything.
Thanks again!!
