Description
Backbeat lived in Cloudsdale with her mother, father, two sisters, and two brothers. Her brother Vector is a year younger than her and Greenbean, Minibean, and Jellybean are triplets that are 3 years younger than Pixelglitch. When she was 6, her mother and father went to the Galla and left them with their babysitter. They got a call during the night that explained that the train they were taking to get to the Galla crashed and their parents along with 12 other ponies were killed.

Backbeat was devastated but held on strong for her siblings. She needed to be there for them. They ended up moving to the Ponyville orphanage where MJ and Jellybean were almost immediately adopted. The new parents of MJ and Jellybean promised to keep in touch and come for visits which Backbeat was thankful for. Vector was adopted a couple of days later along with Pixelglitch. They also promised to keep in touch. Backbeat was never adopted because everyone feared she wouldn't live long, being a miniature Pegasus.

After they left, reality hit Backbeat that her parents were dead and she fell into a minor depression. She then met Highlight, a royal blue miniature Pegasus with long orange to yellow to green faded hair and her sister Blacklight, a maroon miniature Pegasus with long white to teal to light blue faded hair and black freckles on her ears. They became friends and Highlight told Backbeat how the orphanage let the fillies and colts do chores around the house for a few bits to spend when they made trips into the town.

Backbeat got to work doing jobs like washing the sheets of the bed and helping with dinner. She had gone on a few trips with other orphans such as Frost, Andy and Azareth. They had always pasted a DJ shop that Backbeat was dying to go in. There were a pair of dark green and black headphones that she had to get. She saved money for an entire year before she thought she had enough and entered the shop while the other orphans were next door at the toy store. She ran up to the counter and put her bag of bits on the counter.

She explained that she wanted the headphones in the window but the cashier informed her that they went up 40 bits this morning and that she didn't have enough. She tried to say that she would get the rest of the bits for him but he wasn't having it. He tried to usher her out of the store when the door to the backroom opened.

A unicorn wearing headphones came out and demanded to know what was wrong. The cashier turned and explained that she didn't the bits but the unicorn just shook her head and led Backbeat into the back room of the store. Inside was a giant array of buttons and nobs connecting to giant speakers. She walked Backbeat in, gave her the headphones she wanted and sat her on a stool. She told Backbeat to press a large blue button then turn three nobs, all of which she pointed to.

As soon as Backbeat pressed the button, a heavy base began. She turned the nobs in the order the unicorn told her and soon she was adding things on her own, laughing and creating her own music. A bright light suddenly appeared around her. When it faded, a cutie mark had appeared. It was the headphones she got. She knew she was destined to make music. She knew it was her talent.

The unicorn, it turned out, was Vinyl Scratch, and the cashier, Neon Lights.

She returned to the music store everyday for the next two years learning more and more about how to make music. One day she walked in and instead of leading her into the studio, Vinyl and Neon brought her to a table and set a stack of papers in front of her. They wanted to adopt her. She couldn't believe it was finally happening and said yes. They filled out the paperwork together and within a few weeks she was living with them in their house. She got her own mini DJ recording studio to make her own music with her friends. She would invite Pixelglitch, Vector, MJ and Jellybean over to help her with recordings.

After attending school and working through her teenage years, she was looking for a job. She was hanging out with friends one night when all the pegusi in the room mentioned that they were all going to work at the Weather Factory in Cloudsdale. They have her a flier and she filled out the application and moved into Cloudsdale the next month after receiving an acceptance letter. Vinyl was scared to see her go but she supported her non the less.

She arrived at the Weather Factory and learned she would be working in the Rainbow division keeping stock of gradients. Highlight and Laroo were also working in the Rainbow division, Highlight as a control tech and Laroo as quality inspector.

One day Backbeat was working and singing along to some music she had playing when she heard a scream. She looked over the edge of her balcony and saw a small Pegasus being dragged by two large Pegasus. the small one continued to scream and fight as she spouted off information like the Rainbow division using pony blood to create the rainbows and that tons of ponies were killed everyday to make them. Backbeat looked over at Ash and Laroo on different balconies in shock and they looked the same. The hit the small Pegasus until she stopped talking then they dragged her away. The relief from the screaming was short lived as Backbeat and every other pony working that day were forced down into the lower parts of the district, where the rainbows were constructed.

As she was being pushed and shoved down the stairs, she realized that she had never been to this part of the district. She was always told to stay at her post till the end of the day. She hoped that what the other Pegasus said wasn't true. They reached the bottom and the group of workers were merged with another group and lined up in two lines facing each other with a space between. It was silent for a good while till the workers that were originally down there started creating a beat with their hoofs against the cold cement. She looked at the other ponies around her. They look so... pale... she thought to herself. The one next to her kept whispering; there's no place like home over and over to himself.

Soon the Pegasus running the Rainbow district stood on an edge over looking the lines of ponies. She began to sing a melody and after the first line, two very badly beaten ponies came from them shadow of the balcony and sang with her. They looked at each pony as if they were looking for something. The pony next to her tensed as they approached him. The last three lines of the verse was a blur of them grabbing him and dragging him away as the rest were shown their new 'homes'. They explained that after knowing the districts secret, they couldn't be let in the public for the fear of the district getting found out.

She slept and the next day they showed her the job they had planned for her. She was now in charge of calling the shots for which colored ponies they needed to make the rainbows. She was to radio Laroo the color and she would go through the list and find the pony they needed then radio Highlight to bring her to the extraction port. Highlight's job was to make sure no one escaped.

At the end of the day, they were taken back to the beginning room and lined up again. She looked for the pony from yesterday and found him, only his bottom jaw was missing and his eyes looked bloodshot. She looked in fear as she whispered; there's no place like home, like the now jawless pony did the day before. Once again the two ponies marched down the aisle looking for someone to torture. This time they picked a female Pegasus a few ponies down from her. This continued for the next couple of weeks. Everyday, Backbeat noticed, there was an increase of ponies whispering; there's no place like home.

Now almost all of the ponies had been taken to be tortured. Lucky for them, Laroo, Highlight, and Backbeat were all spared for now. The singing began and over half of the room whispered; there's no place like home. Today she thought as she changed the chant. She started to whisper; toy soldier will you follow? and looked slightly to her left and right as if she was asking the question to the ponies around her. She looked up at Highlight and Highlight said it back and looked at the ponies next to her to ask the same this. The other ponies caught on and began to spread the new chant through the lines.

Just then the two ponies grabbed Highlight and began to drag her away. Backbeat shot forward to protect her friend and freed her from their grasp. She shouted at the other ponies and ran with Highlight and Laroo by her side. The other ponies joined in as they ran across the ledges and beam to a large window. She screamed 'this is it' and crashed through the window. They all began to fall and she looked around at the other ponies as they all screamed as they fell. She motioned to them and told them to fly up on three. She looked up to see a couple of guards jumping as well as the boss herself.

She and the other ponies flipped on their stomachs. The guards were approaching fast and Backbeat knew they could stop them.

The ponies opened their wings to slow the falling as the guards came closer. She looked around at the ponies around her and their startled faces. They were scared, she could tell. She closed her eyes and yelled

They all used every ounce of energy they had and flew straight up towards the district. They passed the guards and the boss. They kept flying faster and faster to the district. She screamed at the other ponies to keep going. They needed to break through the foundation of the district to stop this. With all the ponies flying together, they should have enough power.

They crashed in and through the foundation of the building. They made their way out again grabbing as many helpless ponies as they could. They jumped out again and flew down to Ponyville where the guards and leader of the Rainbow District were being arrested by Royal Guards and taken to Canterlot to receive their sentence.

They landed in Ponyville and were greeting with the whole town. Most of the ponies collapsed from exhaustion. Backbeat stayed standing. Vinyl and Neon ran up to her along with her siblings. They all enveloped her in a hug. They said that speculation about the Rainbow District had been going in and out of the news for the last month and they were all concerned about her.

She decided to stay in Ponyville and work at the music shop with Vinyl and Neon.

Then one day a little colt came it with a small pouch with bits in it. He asked for a cheap pair of headphones. Backbeat smiled and asked him if he wanted to see some really cool headphones. He nodded and she lead him into the back room. She plopped him on a chair and told him the press the big blue button.

The same button that seemed to restart her life.
