Description
Winter made itself known as the robed figure strode down the frosted alley, gusts of wind throwing snow about like white confetti.A sinister purpose drove the figure, claws jutting from his knuckles and each muted footstep murmuring of murder.
I found myself (finally) revamping my male personal model (Kurovalan, Desolator, Squiddy... whatever you may know him as), as the update was much needed. He's now less of a pain to pose, has better rigging, better shading, and slightly better textures. I'm pretty happy with what's happened here. His design remains the same, it's really just technical and aesthetic things that were altered.

Actually nvm Β read what you said about giving out personal skins so can I just ask what do you use to make these models?Β

Well, I get the chunks and pieces from various games that I want, then fit and (re)rig them if necessary using Blender.
Don't believe anyone who tells you that it's a crappy program! It can do just about anything 3DSMax can do and more... for free. And it's more stable.
Then I go nuts with the materials once I get them in Source and make 'em look beautiful. xD
For this particular model, his main body is Ezio's Assassin Robes from AC: Brotherhood, arms from Crysis 2's nanosuit (reskinned personally to more closely resemble the concept and box art when I ported it to GMod),
mask from Blacklight: Retribution, and the head underneath is that of the Combat Synthetics from AvP 2010.

Sorry, I don't really know of any tutorials that'll help you get them in and out of Blender, but there are lots of tutorials on how to use Blender itself.
Just look up Blender Cookie.

You'll need to export it to SMD, then compile it.
I'm sorry, but it's a bit too indepth of a process for me to want to walk you through it, but here are some pages that will probably help.
If you need more help, I recommend making a post about it on the Facepunch Modeling forum .

ok and my last question is how to import materials from source games into blender?
π: 0 β©: 1
SquiddyTreat In reply to DrLegion [2013-10-04 19:04:23 +0000 UTC]
Convert the VTFs to TGA, then create a new set of textures for your selected material in Blender, set them to Image\Movie, then browse for your texture.
You'll need to set the shading (Press N and scroll down) to GLSL for this to work, and to be able to see them you'll need to create some lights. I recommend Sun and Hemi.

SquiddyTreat In reply to DrLegion [2013-10-05 02:30:39 +0000 UTC]
Source Engine textures are in VTF format. You can convert them to TGA format using VTFEdit.
Once you do that, you can apply the textures to the model in Blender doing as I said.
Make sure you read\watch some tutorials about the basics of Blender before you get too into this. Failing to do so is the #1 cause of absolute confusion and ragequitting in this line of work.

Crysis within its entirety is like MW + halo only made 20 times better and took its sweet time to be developed

It's just an ordinary 23" display, 1920x1080.
I take these shots all with Garry's Mod's poster command.

Garry's mod poster command?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
SquiddyTreat In reply to Kokyal0rd [2013-09-22 05:33:06 +0000 UTC]
Yes, in Garry's Mod you can simply open up the console and type in "poster #" where # is any integer.
That number acts as a multiplier: so if you have a screen resolution of 1920x1080 and you type in "poster 2", you'll get a PNG screenshot that is 3840x2160, and "poster 10" would land you a giant image of 19200x10800.

Hold on
it works
but when i try it with DOF enabled it makes the picture to the right size, but it's multiple pictures of the native resolution put together instead of one big one

SquiddyTreat In reply to Kokyal0rd [2013-09-22 20:01:38 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it doesn't work properly on water or with DoF, and it can have issues with HDR at times.
It's a shame.

So long I have been wondering how people manage to capture models from a distance without large amounts of pixelation, only to find out it's because of a simple command. Excuse me while I contemplate
