Description The cold nothern city of Saxa is a major power in my post-post apocolyptic dieselpunk 1910s world -> see more about them here -> www.deviantart.com/squidempire…

Saxa, being the oldest continuously populated city on Alver, also has the oldest armed forces: which are consequently storied and full of traditions. While never a world power pre-cataclysm, Saxa's cohesion through the apocalyptic cataclysm meant their army was suddenly among the most powerful on the planet. Despite this headstart, the Saxa military has been slow to adopt new technology or tactics, and their equipment and uniforms seem antiquated today.

The Saxa Constabulary have a reputation for being highly bureaucratic and slow, but methodological and effective detectives. They are a common sight in Saxa or allied wildlands towns, where they are tasked with helping citizens however they can, and are armed with whistles and clubs.

The core of the Saxa army consists of the Royal Grenadiers, an organisation whose ranks are full of students, academics, and muscians who joined for the pension and never expect to be mobilised. The Royal Grenadier Band is considered the most prestigious musical group on the planet for classical musicians, and so the army attracts many musicians who hope to audition for the band, leading to the nickname "The Brass Army" for the entire force. The Grenadiers are armed with old rifles, grenades, and bayonets, and even field some rare pre-cataclysm artillery.

The Royal Highlander regiment is the most practical and active unit in the Saxa armed forces, they are under almost continual deployment in the wildlands. These elite infantry units are renowned for moving extremely fast, often on horseback and overnight, and are armed with carbines and swords. They are Saxa's most (possibly only) effective modern fighting force, and are almost singlehandedly responsible for keeping the borders of Saxa free from bandits.

The Estate Cavalry is an elite historical and storied cavalry regiment that is rarely deployed but which holds tremendous power in the ranks of the Saxa military leadership. They are pompous and self confident, armed with revolvers and swords, bedecked in expensive steel plate armour, and fielding fine thoroughbred horses. All members of the Cavalry must be nobles by birth, Cavalotto Bohrists, and expert horsemen and fencers. They bicker constantly with the Royal Highlanders, who see the Esate Cavalry as useless relics.
