Laydee's and gentlemen, allow me to present, my car.I've owned the 89 mitsubishi galant vr4 (2L turbo 4wd) for about 4 years.
Modifications:
td05h16G turbo
510cc injectors
evo AFM
custom inlet pipe
K&N air filter
later ecu re-programmed to suit, also featuring launch control, flat shifting, and datalogging.
hks bov
custom 3" exhaust
battery relocated to boot
shaved cam cover
4 wheel steering removed
rear clutch type LSD
bigger brake discs and calipers at front
de-badged
rear spoiler removed
carpet + sound deadening stripped
bucket seats on custom rails
momo steering wheel
lowered springs, kyb shocks
tinted windows
a/c removed
walbro 255l/h fuel pump
custom stereo install w/ 2x12" subs, rockford amp, etc
custom boost control set-up (as my fancy electronic one packed a sad).
um, i think that's it.....
boost control issues and work have meant it hasn't shown it's true potential on the drag strip yet.
aim is mid 12 sec 1/4 miles (defiantely achievable
on this set-up).
and ~350-380hp (stock is 220).

pretty much, yea. Then chrome wheels and flashy paint took over, there's still a large following for this sort of style though (usually with big HP engines - mine is in the build at the moment).

In US, there was something like that in the mid-'90s, but with chrome wheels instead, most of them were the three-spoke design similar to wheels seen in your work ... if I'm not mistaken your wheels are/were white, am I right ?! Definitely different from I've seen so far ...
