Description Drawn by hand, colored in Photoshop

Not really sure what to say about this one. My gallery needed more original art, which is the main reason why I drew it. I might go back and change the background later, I'm not sure if I like it.

I learned that I can get away with inking something, then shading it with pencil. Makes my life easier.

The bow looks too tiny.

The colour is natural and soothing. And I like the outfit! Is she going to hunt or sth?

Thank you! That's what I had in mind, though I'm not sure what she's hunting.

Above all else, that outfit is just amazing. Not very conventional for archery, but amazing none-the-less. There's so much detail to it, and it really doesn't look like any other fantasy outfit I've seen before. It's a strangely pleasant combination of elegant and deadly.

The colors are really lovely as well. There's not much shading involved, but somehow it works well in this case. The details of the line art take care of the depth in it's place.

Her face is the only thing that bothers me. It's not bad, but it seems a bit too masculine for her elegant figure. She should probably have a curvier face, and less prominent brow. Shrinking her nose a little may do some good as well. Her expression, on the other hand, works quite well.

Yeah, while I was coloring this I started thinking about how completely not functional the outfit is. But elegant and deadly is totally what I was going for!

I did this back before I had a tablet, so I didn't really have a way to shade well on the computer... so as you noticed, I tried to do the shading with the pencil. I'm glad to hear you think it worked.

I'll admit, her face didn't turn out exactly how I had planned. This often happens to me when I'm inking by hand.

But thank you so much~!

No problem. I should try the pencil thing myself... I don't have a tablet on hand, and I've really been wanting to color something.

I encourage you to give it a try! Just remember that if you do, it looks best if you keep your colors really light, otherwise the shading gets lost and it looks flat in the end.

NotofAdminium In reply to squidlarkin [2009-11-02 04:34:01 +0000 UTC]

Alright. I think I'll try it.

Should I still ink it beforehand, or should I just use my pencil lineart, if I'm going for that sort of shading?

Honestly, I'd just say whatever you're better at. Personally I think it looks better when it's just pencil, but I don' always do that because I smudge the pencil too much.

Hm... I should try it with pencil then, since that's what I'm better at. I'm going to have to try that right now. *Cracks knuckles*

I somehow missed out on this. How??? Anyway, it looks awesome! I really like how the shading worked out. Did you use a lightboard again, like you did with the one before? I can totally bring my light board up from the 'rents, btw.

Anyway, awesome job! hazzah original work!

And no lightboard for this... I only did that before because I wanted stuff on two different layers. Lightboard is too much effort x_x

Amazing again

The best part about this piece is how you used the teeth and bones to convey a barbaric overtone, but also have some very dainty and soft looking cloth on the armor as well

And a shortbow! don't see that too often
