Yay! i use Adobe photoshop 7 (lately downloaded Gimp because i can't find much for 7 just CS3) so if you could explain how to do this in 7 that would be really really great!

Well to be honest, all I really did was make a new layer above the photo and trace it with the brush tool.

You did well at making it look like the photograph, yet it still seems very stylistic at the same time. The flowery branches were a really nice touch. Great work.
