The Discophyta, disc-shaped photosynthetic phytoplankton spread across Mare Vitae. The "plants" of this world are peculiar since they have more plant-like cells with silicate cell walls and more animal-like cells composed of a material similar to cellulose. This gives their photosynthetic segments the appearance of glass, similar to diatom algae of Earth. This also gives the plant-like clades more movement in their other segments. The Discophyta for instance have immovable photosynthetic parts and a siphon running down the middle of the organism that draws in water. Discophyta also have chambers in the center of their bodies which can process minerals and nutrients, sort of functioning like an Earth plant's roots. This is also where the organism's gametes originate, though Discophytes usually reproduce asexually by splitting. They only sexually reproduce when populations are very high or if environmental conditions are unfavorable.
