Description
Introduced to replace the appaling Krag Rifles used in the Spanish-American War, the Springfield was the Standard American Rifle from 1903, until 1936 when it was replaced with the M1 Garand. However in 1942 it was ressurected for reservists and some troops in the Pacific as the M1903A3. With modifications, the Springfield served as the M1903A4 with iron sights removed and a large magnification Scope attached and it served as the weapon of choice for American Snipers until the Vietnam War.Related content

Nice pic; it is also good to add that the '03 you have here has a "Scant" Stock; the rifles are in order or precedence:
M1903 (original model, used in WW1 and in WW2)
M1903A1 (modification of original design revived in WW2)
M1903 Mark I (designed exclusively for use with the "Pedersen Device")
M1903A3 (also known as the "03A3")
M1903A4 (Sniper Variation)
Fact - Did you know that Smith-Corona (of typewriter fame) made Springfields back in WW2? Yep, Smith-Corona Springfields are hard to find and carry a higher collectible price than other '03s.
