Description
The Battle of Staljingrad raged from the 17th July 1942 to February 1943. During this time, over 100,000 Soviet Soldiers and nearly 250,000 German Troops perished, either due to enemy bullets, extreme cold, diseases, wounds, or starvation. Comrade Ioseif Staljin issued the famous order "Not one Step Back!" during this battle, and it became the rallying call for the Soviet Ryadovoys and Sovijetovoys for the remainder of the war.Related content

The Red Army suffered a total of 1,129,619 casualties. 478,741 men killed and captured and 650,878 wounded. Including 40,000 civilian lives.
The Axis lost 1.5 million killed, wounded or captured.
Of the 91,000 survivors of Germany's 6th army only 5,000 ever made it back home.
On top of all that 50,000 ex-soviets were killed. Called hiwi's because they assisted the Nazi's during Stalingrad.
The battle was the bloodiest in modern history, with combined casualties estimated at nearly two and a half million.

Also, it was a warning to Soviet troops that if they retreated, they were going to be shot. So soviets had two choices to die... Friend or Foe!?
