Grazie. It's a sad day when your most distracting character has to tell you to stop being distracted.

Haha..at first I thought Hyde and leperello didn't look that much alike but in the picture that says "after the graveyard spirit has spoken" I can totally see the influence of design in leperello to Hyde

Mhmm.....I at first almost mistaked it as Hyde because the drawing was tiny and I couldn't see leperello's details

You don't have to alter ether one of their designs but I wouldn't alter them too much if you do

When we meet Clive and Sridar in the comic, they're in their forties, though I am planning a spin-off series exploring their earlier days, where these designs will be used. They've also known Shibuki for a while, and anytime he brings up a flashback, I need to know what they look like. Also, in general, it's just good to know all the ins and outs of your characters even if you're never going to use a lot of the information.

I can understand that. I sort of have to do that with one of my characters and for his back story, it requires a lot more research on stupid little things. :/ And a spin off.... oooooo I would love to see that!! :3

squonkhunter In reply to btomimatsu [2012-10-23 03:34:43 +0000 UTC]
Ah, research is fun when you're doing it for a character! What kind of research?
Hopefully the spin-off will be a huge collab project. I want to have my girlfriend come up with story ideas (as she's very good at that and we in general work best together), and to do a lot of the art, though I'll be doing story and art as well. I'm thinking there will be one underlying plot (how they became friends) plus a lot of different and silly adventures. I'll illustrate the main plot and will illustrate the fun adventures, that's what I'm thinking will happen. Still, *shrug*, that's years from now. I have to get HMS up and rolling in order for anyone to even know who these characters are.

Well LA before WW2, which is nearly impossible since it changed so much in 50 years. -__- And then fashion styles back then along with really stupid stuff since I am a perfectionist. As for your spin off, do it, the idea sounds like it has a lot of potential.

Ah, sounds fun! Fashion is always really interesting historically. I myself am attracted to the 18th and 19th centuries for that same reason. Is this for your comic?

Yeah. Zoot suits for all! And I like 19th and 18th century fashion as well, they are very pretty and very flamboyant.

squonkhunter In reply to btomimatsu [2012-10-24 02:46:17 +0000 UTC]
It's so interesting to study them because they become more sober in the 19th century and the change that occurred in fashion from 1775 to the 1790s is CRAZY, like going to almost opposite ends of the spectrum. In this picture, the newer 1790s style is on the left (going back to Greek-inspired clothing for the women and a more working-man sort of look for the men) and the 1770s couple are on the right, mortified and looking very much like peacocks. I guess it was the beginning of the simplification of fashion. But didn't cages for women come back into fashion by the mid 1800's?

I believe in the 1850s something similar to a cage, called a crinoline, was invented.

btomimatsu In reply to squonkhunter [2012-10-28 15:02:57 +0000 UTC]
how long did that craze last? I remember seeing this in photographs.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
squonkhunter In reply to btomimatsu [2012-10-28 20:22:22 +0000 UTC]
Well, at around 1864 the crinoline, which widened at all areas, became a crinolette, which was wide only at the back and not at the sides or the front. Crinolines are actually still worn today in wedding dresses and such.

btomimatsu In reply to squonkhunter [2012-10-28 23:04:19 +0000 UTC]
But since it widened it at all areas, is it flexible, or I guess collapsable?

Forever approving of more and more and MOAR Don Giovanni! The hereby depicted giga-smilie is for the operatic and graphic department; sorry, Don, but I still think you're a massive jerkass. A massive jerkass with great arias.
I was tempted to call Kitten!Sridar cute, then I took a better look at his expression. I'll just give him a little pat and then leave him alone. Promise.

Thank you! I also like my color ones. I don't often have time to color those two and they're going to be in the comic soon, so I might as well figure it out. XD
Haha the 'Stop being distracted' Rem is on my 20th century literature class notes. I draw a lot in that class.

Ah, that makes sense considering how many sketches there are.
Ah'm so jealous of yer skillz yo! I like your traditional sketches more than your digital drawings though. I like sketches better in general because they give a feel for the art process more.

squonkhunter In reply to MalimarTheMage [2012-10-17 03:36:41 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! I do actually draw this much but I haven't uploaded a lot of what I've been sketching recently because it's for the animated film I'm working on and I don't know how much my school will let me reveal.
Ah, you mean like sketch lines and stuff? I like drawing traditionally as well, but I prefer coloring digitally to traditionally. It's just a lot easier and can get more dramatic and vibrant, in my opinion, as it doesn't have to suffer the scanner death.
