What inspired you to create this calendar?

While I appreciate the generous spirit inherent to curio, you cannot deny that generosity comes easier when greased with a little incentive. What better incentive than adorable animals and beautiful people? Calendars are cheap to make, easy to print, and everyone needs one.

Very true. Can you tell us why you’re so invested in Waveflier conservation?

Of course. Wavefliers are an integral and threatened aspect of Undyre society- rebuilding their population is akin to rebuilding and preserving what little is left of our culture. Undyre have been breeding Wavefliers for generation, particularly our clergy, so you could argue they are also of a spiritual significance.

Personally, I’ve always had a soft spot for animals, more than most people. I was heartbroken to read about what happened to them in Mino Ami. Something had to be done- we cannot afford to sit on our hands and hope for them to recover on their own. We are responsible for them being endangered now, we must be responsible for their restoration.

Can you tell us about your waveflier?

Cyrano is one of two actually- he and Roxanne are my family wavefliers, and have been for the past four or five years. As such you could consider them our ‘flagship’ pair. I had wanted Roxanne to be in the shoot as well, but opted against it, so as not to put too much stress on the baby. You can never be too careful. But Cyrano here is our pride and joy, he was actually a gift from the clergy to my father for services rendered. We’d always intended to breed the two, but given the world situation… well.

They’re very sweet fliers though, both very intelligent and well-tempered. I have high hopes for their bloodline.

Can you give us a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes process?

Oh, we don’t have time for all the tea I could spill, we’d be here all day. But let’s just say, it was a bit of a struggle. We had to work with volunteers, of course, preferably those with their own wavefliers to lend a more natural and authentic feel to the photos, but that does mean that, with few exceptions, we were working with amateurs. Mr. April was entirely unprepared for his photo, and Mr. September, well. There are no bad wavefliers, only bad trainers, and he certainly did not have control over any of his pups. The photo we have was still the best of the lot- eventually, we just had to move on. And you would not BELIEVE some of the unsolicited entries we received. There was one where the ‘model’ posed on a waveflier rug. I’m convinced it was a cruel joke made in an effort to rile us up, but we are better, and more professional than that.

That’s terrible! Do you still have a copy of the photo?

Absolutely not, I burned it myself.
