Description
The queue could be described as lengthy, but it would be a lie. The shop was so crowded that the still growing queue nearly circled the expanse of the room, from one wall to the other and bending at the tip, almost like a crude attempt at playing the game ‘snake’. Working their hands off, the Pokemon taking the money from the happy customers and putting up a friendly bravado although by this point they were clearly bored out of their minds, and wished that they could be enjoying the party themselves. One after the other, a group of three Pokemon followed each other in quick succession, a Cyndaquil, Zorua and Spinarak. The Zorua, Sid, was looking around with an antsy expression, his not quite as impatient partner gave him a calming look. Immediately Trinity recognised them, and although she hadn’t met them personally she’d helped out one of their team’s friends, team Vendetta. Surely that would be enough to start some small talk, right?“Oh, hey! Hey!” She yelled at the other team, oblivious to the reactions of the other shoppers. Jogging swiftly to them, she found herself snugly in the line, much further forward than she was previously. That is, if the other team would let her get away with it. “You’re team Duplex, right?”
“Yeah, that’s us!” Cried Sid, and upon taking a closer look at Elektra, he laughed. “Hey, aren’t you from that team with the Seviper that Coil’s crushing on?”
“What? Coil has a crush on Elektra?” Fighting back laughter, Trinity forced her way further into the line. Although she got some fairly disapproving looks from the other shoppers, she was in.
“Majorly!” The Spinarak chuckled, adding to his partner’s previous statement. All three of them erupted into laughter, and Gilly coughed rather suddenly.
“Oh yeah, this is my temporary partner Gilly!” Trinity pointed him out to the others, who each grinned at him expectantly.
“Aye, glad to meet yah!” His seafarer accent made the greeting sound even more welcoming, and the other team just couldn’t help warming to him instantly.
“The name’s Zibb!” Rather suddenly, the Spinarak pointed to the blue ball in Trinity’s arms. “Hey, who’s that for? Elektra would probably just pop it, knowing her!” Trinity held the ball close and was about to defend Elektra profusely, but Gilly popped in and said,
“It’s for my partner, Sea Foam. The young lass gets bored, so I got her something nice to entertain her!”
“Makes sense.” Replied the Zorua, shrugging. “Hey, d’you think we could quieten Elle down with one of these?”
As though she’d been listening to the entire conversation, which she likely had been, Elle trotted on over and jumped in line. in her excitement her tail flared, which burned up her bow.
“Looks like Elle’s present will have to be a new bow!” Trinity giggled.
“Well, that’s if Chrys decides to act normal again. I’ve no idea how we’ll manage to get him to make her one while he’s like this!” Sid sighed overdramatically. Gilly, with sudden urgency, piped in with his own hushed words.
“Aye we just met up with him a few seconds ago! I don’t know the man personally but something seemed mighty wrong with him. Yelled at us when I messed up some cloths... Seems to me something is bothering him.” As if on cue the group came in closer as if the topic of their discussion was highly controversial; thinking they would get in trouble just talking about it in the shop.
“Yeah I’ve noticed,” Sid stepped in, “Chrys has been like this ever since he’s started carrying around that weird cloth.” Trinity looked around to make sure no one was listening in on their conversation before speaking.
“Do any of you know where he got it? Seems like there is nothing special about it at all, just a gray old cloth... Although, it does have an odd feeling to it, like the new set of accessories.”
“All I know is that he didn’t have it till all the teams got back from the missions.” Zibb pointed out to everyone.
“That's true,” Trinity pondered to her self. “I don’t recall him like this before Elektra and I went out to recruit Slasher’s Sneasals, or even before I finished evolving later that day.”
“Well when we got back from the ranch he was fine. I haven’t seem him like this till about when Sorbet told us about his Birthday.” Sid whispered.
The small group of friends continued with their chat, quietly talking with hushed voices as they made their way to the tills. Eventually they were at the front of the lengthy line and team Duplex paid for their items and with a final good bye. They made their way out of the store soon after, shoving through the thick crowd and with a merry wave from them to Trinity and Gilly they disappeared from sight. Trinity walked up to Sherri, the lone Cherrim standing at the till and placed her delicate Draganair wooden statue and Gilly’s leather ball before her. “I would like to purchase this please.” Sherii looked the ornamental carving up and down before making her reply.
“Ah very nice choice miss. These statues are hand crafted from the finest Oran wood and painted by the fine Smeargle artists in the north, imported into Tao village by the Merchants. They are pricey though ma’am; do you have enough to pay for this?” Trinity was taken aback by the rude statement, feeling a bit judged.
“Of course I do! Hold on just a second.” Trinity turned away from Sherri while she grabbed a sack full of coins that had been concealed in her long yellow hair. “Here you go, this should cover the price.” She dropped the sack onto the counter, a few golden coins spilled out with a small clink upon hitting the surface of the checkout, the ones that remained inside rattled slightly. She grinned smugly when she heard a small gasp escape the Cherrim’s lips.
“Ah thank you miss.... and as for the ball here; are you purchasing this as well?”
“Oh no this is fo-” Trinity was interrupted by Gilly who had fluttered up to her slender ear; landing on her shoulder and leaned over to whisper something to her.
“I’m really sorry mate but it seems I’ve left my loot at my old tree; could I maybe borrow some from you? I’d pay you back.” Trinity froze up in front of Sherri and Gilly both. She barely knew the Wingull, in fact only for the short time they had spent together. Did she really trust this bird enough to lend him some of her hard earned money?
“Yes, it’s for a friend of mine.” Trinity corrected.
Trinity waited patiently as the Cherrim opened the sack and proceeded to count up the necessary amount for purchase. However, she stopped for a moment upon counting out the remaining coins, as there were none left. The little pouch of coins was empty - the contents of which was not substantial enough to cover the cost of the carving and little leather ball combined.
“I’m very sorry, but your funds do not seem to cover both of these items. I’ll have to ask you to return one of these back to the shelves.” Stuttering, Trinity grabbed her bandanna and pulled it from her neck, not even bothering to undo the knot that held it there, and placed it on the counter.
“Here!” She added quickly, “This should cover the cost, I hope, Chrys seemed to be obsessing over cloth earlier, surely he’d like some more!”
“Alright, I’ll accept that since this is a gift.” Sighed Sherri. “But please don’t make a habit of this!” She warned Gilly and Trinity, the latter smiled in honest relief.
“Thanks a lot, you’ll not regret this!” Sherri would have probably replied, but found herself unable to as the rogues had vanished, taking their presents and a pile labelled ‘free gift bows - please take one to make presents extra special!’ was missing a little red ribbon from the top. Sherri sighed yet again and called another customer - just another day at work for her.
