Song they sing: ‘I Will Come To You’ by Hanson
-------------------------------------------------------------
The hippopotas and the pidove where huddled together again, at a loss as to which direction to go in order to be reunited with their friends. Persia was humming under her breath again, more so to try and cheer up the dejected bird than to comfort herself. Slowly, Persia felt her head drooped, and her eyelids sliding closed, but she was startled back to attention when Penumbra suddenly came out into the open, fluttering her still-damp wings with excitement.
“Oh, Persia, do you see it? Can you see that light?” Penumbra was gazing off into the distance, and when she turned her gaze to the hippopotas’s face, all she saw was confusion. “A faint, blue glow in the distance. Isn’t that from Meranda’s cap?”
“Yes...” Persia said, her expression thoughtful. She became more animated. “Yes! It must be!” She lowered her head to the ground, rolling her eyes in Pen’s direction. “Quick, get on! You’ll be able to see it better if you’re higher! The wind doesn’t seem so strong any more, but still... Hold tight, Pen, stay low, and if the wind picks up again, slide down onto my back, and then hop off my side and we’ll wait it out.”
Penumbra hopped onto her friends head, and settled down between her ears. “Yup, I’ll do that. Okay...” She concentrated, searching for that distant glow again. “Turn a little to the right... There! That’s good. They’re straight ahead, still far away, but at least we know where they are now!” And she smiled, all anxiety lifting of her shoulders, allowing her to breathe easy.
And Persia made her way slowly through the snow, steady and determined to get her and Penumbra both back safely to the others.
--------
“Paulie, I think we’re going the wrong way. We should stop and ask for directions!”
“Mmm...” The stantler was disoriented. He’d been pretty sure that this was the way tha Persia had headed, though he had been weak and unable to focus on anything really, when she had left. And, for all he knew, he was going in circles! Turning to look behind him, he saw that his hoofprints were steadily being filled in, making it impossible for him to tell where he had already been. Setting down the sack he still carried in his mouth, he nodded his head. “Yeah... Haven’t seen anything in this direction. Hopefully Persia has found her... It’ll be much easier for us to spot Persia, huh? I don’t think Persia came this way, do you? We should look somewhere else.”
“Yeah, if they aren’t in front of us, they must be behind us! Let’s turn around and go back, and then we’ll find them!”
Paulie picked up the sack again, not mentioning to Meranda that it was possible that they might be out to the left or the right, but following her advice, because he had no other ideas, and he had to llok somewhere, so why not in the direction the kind shellos on his back had proposed?
And so, he turned around, picking up his hooves with renewed energy, the sack swaying softly from side to side as he picked up his pace. And Meranda, securely on his back, hummed to herself under her breath.
And unbeknownst to either of them, the light that had been guiding their friends back to them was now hidden from them, facing the other way.
--------
A sudden rush of swirling snow had pushed Pen down onto Persia’s back, and as she wearily climbed back up onto the hippopotas’s head, she heaved a small, tired sigh. She then crouched low, and squinted her eyes, searching for the the blue glow. When she failed to spot it, she shook her head, and closed her eyes for a moment, clearing her mind. When she opened them again... Still nothing. She let out a strangled cry, and slumped down, frustrated and tired and worried.
“I... I lost it. I’m sorry Persia! But I can’t see it anymore. It’s... gone.”
“N-no...” The hippopotas had stopped moving, and shivered in the snow. Her face fell, and her eyes were full of uncertainty. As the two huddled together again, Persia hummed under her breath, and it gradually rose in volume, until it formed words, because nothing comforted Persia, or cheered her up, like a good song did. “When you have no light to guide you...And no one to walk beside you...” She trailed off. For once, singing wasn’t going to help very much, it would only tire Persia out faster, and she had not very much energy left to begin with.
“Persia... What are we going to do?” Penumbra looked out at the world around them, and she had never felt so small and insignificant as she did in this moment, lost in the middle of the storm.
--------
“Stop, Paulie!” Meranda’s tone was serious now, the way it rarely was. She was staring ahead, her eyes focused, her head tilted slightly, her whole body attentive. “Did you hear that?”
“Mm-mmm.” The stantler shook his head slightly, the sack dragging a little across the snow. He hadn’t heard anything, but then, he supposed, Meranda’s hearing was probably a little better than his.
“It was Persia! I’m sure of it! They must be close... I heard her sing.” Meranda was silent for a few more seconds, before she opened her mouth and began to sing, her voice comforting Paulie, the words warming his heart. “I will come to you, ooooh, come to you.”
They both held their breath, and waited. The moments dragged on, and there was nothing but the whistling of the wind. But then, so quiet that Paulie almost missed it, a reply came to them.
“When the night is dark and stormy...”
“Uhhh!” The sack was dropped to the ground in surprise, and Paulie laughed with relief. “It’s Persia, Meranda! You found her! Keep singing. Sing us back together.”
And so, Meranda did.
“You won’t have to reach out for me.”
“I will come to you...”
“ Oooh, come to you.”
Paulie could make out a figure steadily moving towards them, and he picked up the sack and rushed forwards to meet them.
“Paulie? Paulie!”
He knew that voice, he’d know it anywhere! It was Pen! Persia had found her, and brought her back to him!
The four friends came together. Meranda slid off Paulie’s back and rushed to Persia’s side, and Penumbra hopped onto Paulie’s head and slid down his neck, spreading her wings to hug him. They stayed put for several minutes, just glad to be back together again, before Meranda spoke up.
“We should get to Tao as soon as possible. If it’s bad out here, it must be bad there, and there might be others who need saving. We must go and help!”
And so, as a solid group of four, they turned and headed for Tao, happy, and anxious. They were no longer so afraid though, even though there were likely to be dangers awaiting them.
They would face them, and get through them, together.

I'm glad <3 Trying new things is always good.
Writing about Meranda and Persia, and trying to portray them correctly is helping me a lot too.

oh, that sounds like a plan, cool how you manage to mix it up without having to mix up the theme and start drawing something else, you can keep it varied with pokemon alone in how you execute it
