Description
Yet another little test render that was done rather quickly. I hope you like it! Still experimenting with Marmoset. I also did this one in Blender but I did like the marmoset outcome more. Lighting is just so much more complimentary in this one and easy to set up!RadiantEld is definitely my idol on that regard.
I have a long way to go- but in the meantime I'll just enjoy sharing whatever I create, with you guys.
Both models are from xXKammyXx

This is great. You should make a tutorial some day showing your progress. And you don't have to show all your secrets/tricks.

This is not blender though.
it's marmoset toolbag O.O

Oof. Is Toolbag better in your opinion?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Sreliata In reply to L0stInTheEcho [2018-07-12 22:41:35 +0000 UTC]
It depends.
Toolbag is really just for rendering. You can't do anything else with it such as smoothing or separating meshes etc.
But ... on the other hand, with toolbag, you don't have to wait the whole night for a render to finish, you know?
It really has its good side with that.
Light-Setup is also extremely great and easy! It's just.. so handy and fast. xD

I'll have to try it out when I get a better computer. Light setup is my biggest weakness

... what!?
You are so sweet for saying that.
I'm still trying around a lot. This is marmoset toolbag.
I normally use blender as you know.
I just love that with toolbag, you don't have to wait a whole night for a render to finish. It's instant. XD
Thank you so much for liking my marmoset ones too.

Ahh, yeah.
That is because there is no direct sharp sunlight on it.. so the mini normals didn't come through!
I'll keep that in mind.

Definitely! I still want to improve and those DoA renders are pretty quick and easy, in comparison to ... say, big sceneries or Final fantasy things.
Anything in particular you'd like to see?

Very nice lighting in this one
Hitomi is my favorite in the render.
You see the bright spot under Lei's arm (armpit). A baked occlusion map could stop this from happening.
When you bake an occlusion map for a model, Toolbag calculates where the sky light cannot reach, and
produces a b&w occlusion map that you add to your material.
The baker is very easy to use. It's just that it doesn't work on all models. It works like this if you want to try it:
First click on bread icon to add a baker.
The baker has a root icon where you find all the settings for the baker. A high folder, and a low folder.
Meshes that are put in the low folder will get materials created(baked) for them. When these materials are
created Toolbag uses the meshes in high folder for calculations. Both are needed.
To use this. Place body, face and bikini meshes inside the high folder. Duplicate them and place them in the low
folder as well.
Then click on the baker root icon to access the settings. Activate mutliple texture sets. With this activated Toolbag
will bake one texture for each material in the low folder. Otherwise all textures are written to the same file, producing
frankenstein results.
Then scroll down further and uncheck normal map, and check occlusion map. The occlusion map has a cogwheel
for its own settings. Click on it and increase the ray count to at least 1024.
Then click on the bake button. Baking the textures will take a while. It's like rendering a picture. The maps will be
placed in the same folder as your scene file. If it works, the ambient occlusion maps have some black spots in them.
If it doesn't work, they're just white.
Should it work, add the respective occlusion map the materials for the body, face and bikini.
Here is an example of what an occlusion map may look like:
The weird spots you see are parts where bodies are making contact. Toolbag is lazy here and doesn't even
bother to render them, hence they're white (instead of black).
You can also see a slight occlusion from the bikini.

Interesting. Very interesting.
And I did try and follow that. However.. for some reason my occlusion-map turned out weird and .. distorted.
Look at this:
prntscr.com/k5dsp3
I don't know why though. Using that occlusion map didn't change anything beneath her arm etc.
Do you happen to know what might have gone wrong there?
You have no idea how grateful I am for your tipps.
I can only hope that one day, I'll be able to make as nice things with marmoset as you do!

Try a bake with the non-smoothed obj files from XPS. They don't produce those shifting squares. I think the smoothing
and tris to quads messes things up for Toolbag.
For best results place both chars body, face, and bikini in the high and low folder. Then they will occlude each other.
It's not certain the occlusion map will fix the armpit lighting. I have seen it help a lot of times though. Sometimes
you just need to alter the GI Voxel Scene Fit and GI brightness. Moving those sliders can do unbelievable
wonders.
You will one day make me drop my jaw. I know it.

Sreliata In reply to RadiantEld [2018-07-12 09:46:10 +0000 UTC]
Ohh, that might help, yes! Definitely will have to give it a try with the xps models. I can always smooth it afterwards.
Thank you so incredibly much! You have no idea how much it means for me to get your help!

I discovered something today. DOA bodies uses a mirrored UV map. For example,
the body texture only has one leg section, and that gets applied to both left and right leg.
This is bad for the baker, because it will calculate shadows from both legs and draw them
both on the leg section in the texture.
The squares and triangles we see are most likely a mixture of shadows from both sides.
The way to solve this is to go into Blender and do an UV unwrap before baking. But I don't
know how to do that yet.
The length one has to go to make something sweet =/

Marmoset Toolbag is a very nice and quick program. I just like that I don't have to wait a whole night for the renders to be done. He'he.
And lighting wise, it's also very easy to set up!
Though it is really just that: for rendering. You can't do anything else. Such as seperating meshes etc. That is something that'll alwasy have to be done in blender anyway.

xD If I'd be a hamster and am told I can't ever escape the blender.. then I'd be terrified now. Ha'Ha.
But yeah, it is awesome. You should give it a 30 days free trial, really. It's fast and easy.
