i don't know if i'm a good judge of what the others said, but what appeals to me about this picture is how you do that classic/ old fashioned clothing thing. i love that. the open and honest way her eyes look are very nice too! ~Dawna

you made that dress yourself... that's really cool to be able to do that kind of thing. i'm trying to learn to do some of that myself. i can do all right by hand, but i don't have a sewing machine so its kinda hard. my mom does some sewing too!

lol without a sewing machine it would have taken weeks! The chemise took only two hours, but the overdress took a week, because I had no pattern, I used an old bodice as a pattern, then just rigged a skirt to it, found the trim at the store and voila! This past summer my daughter and I went to a rennaissance event where you live there all week and dress like that all the time, so we needed clothes, it's too expensive to buy them all, so we made them, and they had to be fairly accurate. It was a chore, but the event was soooo much fun, we're going next year too!

rennaissance thats the word i was trying to think of when i saw the dress and all. we have one in massachusetts too, but not near where i live. i'm gonna show my mom your pictures and ask her if we can do the same think you did with your daughter.

lol I always have to look the word up to spell it correctly! usually I just say "ren" and cheat on it....
Here is another pic of the dress...[link]
and if go on my gallery and go to the second page, there are pictures that we took when we were there....it was so much fun. It was like a ren faire, but it was not open to the public. It was run by the SCA, you had to live there, and pay for the whole week or 2 if you stayed for 2 weeks. Then they had battles and competitions and classes, there were over 600 classes you could take. My daughter and I learned to belly dance when we were there! There was food and parties every night. bagpiper contest, fashion shows, dancing exhibitions, they held royal court, it was quite unusual. And addicting, that's why we're going back, we didnt want to leave!
But we got homesick for our pets.....
If you need any help or advice let me know, I know many links to dress advice and patterns!

WOW! That's stunning. The lighting, the setup, the costume, the girl, the props, the expression! Simply gorgeous.
And you certainly have some claim to the artistic merit of this piece. 50% of your genes went into creating the main focus of the piece (I'm assuming she wasn't adopted, I see a family resemblance).

lol, no I'll vouch for her parentage, she is all mine! She has some of my features, but also her dad's, she got his hair and lips and cheeks.
And yes, we both love this picture and this photographer!
thanks!

I know, it's creepy. He did something called renaissance lighting, so it looks like old candlelight or firelight. Soft and yellow light, no bright white flash. He does paintings too, and then superimposes the picture over the painting to make it look even neater...but we didnt need that for this girl!

I meant that I wish I have skills to paint it because I like art very much, and oil paintings have the soul, and the painting like this photo would be beautifull in my opinion

thank you, we were thrilled too, it's the look she wanted to do. He did 4 types, the 20's look, the renaissance look, the belly dancer, and the victorian. Maybe I'll get the other two up later. The 20's look is on my site, it too came out fantastic!
thank you so much!

He did an incredible job! The dress is mine, pats self on back, but the face is allllllll hers! We went to PEnnsic as Middle Eastern, but next year I'm gonna go this way (although Middle Eastern is good when it's like 90 degrees out!)
I promise to get more up soon!
thank you so much
