Description
This piece is a commission and the commissioner had very specific things wanted. Symbolically, I did use allot of tradition Norse symbolism coupled with my own take on this 'Norse' God.16 x 20 - Original acrylic

I think its funny that the actor that plays him in the Thor movie was black when the name Heimdalr means white. I wonder if they did that on purpose.... If so that would be awesome. Your's is too by the way.

Absolutely beautameous. I particularly like the subtle play of color in the hair and fur cape on this guy.

This is a nice piece, but there's one thing that sticks out for me as a little awkward. I assume the aurora behind him represents the Bifrost itself. It works well in this image, but since the Bifrost is traditionally portrayed as rainbow-colored, if you don't a bit about Norse mythology, the symbolism may not be immediately obvious. Just some food for thought.
I love the intricacy you worked on his clothes and on the horn. I'm curious why you chose the rooster as the motif for his belt. Were you going for a dawn/renewal theme, or did you have something else in mind?

I put in a note above to answer some of your question... However roosters are quite symbolically related to Heimdalr in traditional Norse mythology, as are seals... As far as a 'rainbow bridge' it is actually an Aurora Borealis and something I feel is more accurate... Here's a great link that is an excellent resource on Norse Mythology: thenorsegods.com/

Oh, I wasn't questioning the use of the roosters; I just hadn't heard of them being associated with Heimdalr before and was wondering if you were working a separate theme in addition to the guardian image.
