very good, I like it a lot! it has a lot of originality, but of today's standards, everybody is doing this, so, not a lot, it brings out the light in the woods in the background, covered by a blanket of snow. I kinda think it is a little weird that the trees surrounding it are in a circular shape, while the sun beams down onto the tree. Again, very good, liked it, lots of originality, technique good job, impact a lot, vision was amazing, (made me think of a white rabbit for some reason) and you should be proud.

Before you read this, please keep in mind that I will be honest and criticise some parts, however I will do so in a polite manner, and I intend no offense at all. Thank you, and I hope that this may help you improve.

---

I would, at first glance, have ignored this, and I have only found myself here out of boredom and clicking random deviations, so you should work on first impressions from a distance (the thumbnail is small). A quick glimpse whilst scrolling through a page should catch the viewer's eye by having some sort of interesting easily-to-spot aspect to it. That is my first suggestion.

Now, the colour scheme. I am, admittedly, a big fan of cold, sombre, and dark atmospheres. The colour scheme mixed with the general air of this piece combine perfectly to portray this. I especially love how there are no vibrant colours and it's just relaxing overall to the eye. On the contrary, however, this kind of colour scheme does not capture attention at first glance since it is rather dull. I would recommend adding some warmth somewhere in the image (by warmth I mean a 'warm' colour, such as red, orange, yellow, pink, etc).

Then we move onto the positioning. The angle portrayed here is beautiful, I really must comment. The tree right in the middle which allows the rays to appear create a phenomenal appearance; it reminds me of an angel coming down from heaven in how the tree obscures the direct sight of the sun, but emits rays around it. Beautifully done.

There is one final thing that I will talk about - the border. I am, no doubt, a fan of borders, especially on rectangular/square images (no transparency at the edges or two vertical lines and two horizontal lines with sharp corners), since they give the piece something to define it. However, the border on this image is, in my opinion, a little too thick. This could be easily resolved by adding texture to the border, though. Unfortunately, solid borders that are over 3-5px (depending on the piece) are usually quite unsightly.

All in all, it is a wonderful image that I would happily use as my desktop image had the dimensions been different. I love the general idea of this image and, with some minor tweaks, could beat almost all of its competitors.

Now, before you rate this as unfair, which you are free to do, please bear in mind that this is not a compliment generator, but a critique. In order to improve, the artist must know what is wrong and how to fix it, which is what I have provided, and I have also balanced it out with compliments. You may, if you still feel so, rate this unfair, but I just felt like pointing that out since I believe that this critique may be looked at as harsh.

Wow, this is amazing! The impact on the drawing is really intense and it gives a feel of how beautiful Winter really is. The darkness of the trees and the light colour of the snow in breathtaking, and the forest looks peaceful, but dead. The sun rays beaming through the trees gives it the affect of heaven, but not quite. This would still be amazing without high resolution. Out of curiosity, which forest was this taken in?

I hope you do more photography like this, and you just received 1 new watcher!

To put this simply, amazing. Absolutely amazing.

You seem to be skilled at photography. Not many people can photograph a tree in this exact way. Then again, this photograph seems well defined even without high resolution. Just out of curiosity, where did you shoot this photo? Judging by the background, it could be in Canada. That's not implying anything at all. It just looks great. The background is visible. The contrast looks perfect. Overall, this looks fantastic. I am wondering if you make or have made other photographs and posted them here on DA. I would like to see them. In fact, I browse through your gallery.

There are so many postivie things I can say about this! First and foremost, the best thing you did here was making the tree the center of the photo causing the light to shine through the sides, but just the whole outcome of this was a breathtaking result. This is still an impressive photo also, the background also is very stunning as everything seems to just stay in a lineup with perfect clarity. How you managed to make this is beyond me, but by far, this just catches me eye so greatly, It deserved recognition. A great piece of photography that I loved!

Amazing shot! the originality is great, and the fading trees in the background just add to it. The technique, however, it what really hit me. The ray of light really added a striking element to the entire picture, and was just elevated by the tree, right smack in the middle.

The impact, however, was just a little bit lacking. The photograph's purpose, I believe, was kind of lost, and not put into sharp focus. Apart from that, it's really good.

This image made me open my eyes, and pay even closer attention to detail. Keep up the awesome work!

Very beautiful. So much photographic vision and design. I will put in a good word for this art. So stunning and puts to shame my photography. It is amazing how you had a camera at the exact moment. You are so lucky to create such a breath taking impact.

I am an honest grader, this was amazing. So much technique. The light in the back adds a great light vision and texture. It compliments the snow so much, and it is great how it it creates a reflective back around the tree trunk. You have an eye for still life in your photography.

Trees are in everywhere, not as much as We would like, but We don't really pay attention on these details. And you did pay attention!
This picture bring us the hope that even alone We are not the only ones, even apparently being like any other, still would be possible to shine and enlighten all around.

Most of the times the distance between us and our best shot is nearly imperceptible, just a blink and you'll lose it.
Indeed the originality of this photo is incontestable.
The colors, the light, the moment, the feeling: 5 stars are not enough for this great art-work.

A great example of nature photography at its very best. The image gives a sense of mystery, vision and power, this is achieved in my opinion by the striking light and colours.

The time and season are key in the end result, the low sun and bright snow make the scene seem like a true image of the heart of untouched nature.

I'm struggling to find a focus spot but I often like this in an image for it makes the viewer search and enjoy the image to the fullest.

The only change I would recommended (again it is just my personal opinion) is to maybe enhance the rays of light cutting through the forest giving more emphasis on the light.

It's really pretty! The light that shines behind the tree that is mostly focused on makes the whole image seem surreal!
However, I only gave you 4 stars for Originality as this type of image is seen a lot on DA and across the internet, as well as professional galleries.
But all together, a lovely photo with a beautfiul use of light and nature! The trees seem so straight! Like they were hand drawn or something!
If I had to give it an overall rating, it would be 5 stars!

Theres not much you can fault about this image, even if you did you'd just be overly pretentious. The composition is perfect. The exposure is brilliantly done, this could easily have been overly contrasted but the exposure has nailed it.

The really impressive part of this, is the fact it hasn't been overdone! You see many photographers that want a perfectly symmetrical and airbrushed photo. But the shot has a amazingly natural feel to it, this completely adds to the appeal of the photo.

My one criticism is the black border added, the photo is beautiful in its own right!

For starters, great work! Its an amazing shot!
I'm always told by other photographers to put the main subject of interest in one of the thirds of the image. But if the tree was off center just by a bit, it wouldn't be as effective as it is now. The tree also acts as a leading line up to the sunlight above.

The flare of the sunlight also adds to the image, catching your eye but not distracting the viewer from the rest of the image.

There is also great detail in the snow and surrounding trees. the depth of field is great.

This is a really magical image, it makes me feel relaxed and calm
Keep up the good work, your doing great!

Phenomenal photograph, perfect composition, and the colors are absolutely vivid. Everything about this photograph is outstanding, and it's this kind of technique that should set the example to nature photographers around the world. This photo effectively captures the essence of a wooded winter scene. You really can't ask for more. This is it. This is the kind of photography that really has an impact on its viewers. It's beautiful. The lighting in this photo is just surreal, and the effect is multiplied by the arrangement of the trees, their shadows, the canopy above, and the snow down below. Amazing work. Five stars all around.

I must say that this picture is amazing!, I have never seen a more beautiful picture of a tree like that in the forest. it reminds me of the forest that is from narnia and it shines down like that makes it almost magical.

The picture is very much sense in itself. and one can imagine what that shimmering light can be. An angel perhaps?, no one knows and it makes it even more better.

The snow is really doing an important part of it all. I really think you've got to picture the way that it Γ€r.Den dark blue color in the picture, I love indeed.

I just surfed through the newest deviations... and then I saw THIS.

It is a magnificent piece of artwork because the high amount of contrasts work like eye-catchers.
The tree separates the picture in two (nearly symmetrical) parts. Human beings tend to like symmetry: so do I and that is why I clicked on the thumbnail.

The rays of the sun behind the tree are somehow mysterious - the whole forest seems to be surreal. The cold colors create a distance, but at the same time this distance is impressive.
As the observer, you seek new details - and you find them.
The twigs on the tree make the scene interesting and thrilling. Eyes are crossing the picture, looking for the end of the forest: but you can only see trees. Starting with one tree in the foreground, and four trees in the middleground, trees are multiplying and endlessness can only be assumed directly BEHIND the tree. Where the light comes from, there seems to be a way through the forest.

The twigs and the dark forest - as a contrast to the light of the sun, make your artwork as that what it is.
The editing is very good, really.
I think this picture shows that you are a talented artist and you see details.

When I saw this piece it had alot of impact on me instantly. It's been brillantly captured to the point where it's touched me dramatically.

The tree in the middle diverted my attention to the background where the trees on the right block out the light but on the left the light seeps through.

This piece is incredible and even though pictures similar to this one have been used before the layout and contrast of yours is more eye catching and appealing.

Not only is this very beautiful but it has meaning. It just shows how far you can go with artwork.

Keep up the good work

This really is quite beautiful. The contrast of the wet tree and the bright light behind is breathtaking. Because of the sunlight being directly behind the tree, it makes sense that it is centered in the photograph, but personally it makes the photo a bit flat.

The plenty of trees in the background make up for the necessity of the centered foreground. And the snow adds to the total contrast and brightness of the shot. The small branches sticking out breaking the light from behind makes also adds to the beauty.

I really do enjoy just looking at it. Very well done.

This piece immediately got my attention when I first spotted it.
Of course, I didn't have a premium subsription and couldn't critique. But that's changed.
On the piece:
It's really simple, yet I think it took quite some time making this.
I love how the background slowly turns more hazy; It's really gives a winter-like feel, as well does the gray and blue colour scheme. This also is an example of "right place, right time". It's hard to find a spot like this and all the conditions right. Of course, Photoshop is our very best friend if something is not quite perfect enough for a landscape like this. Now let's get to the real critical points. You can give the light a bit more impact by making the edges of the picture darker. The black edge already gives a bit of that feel but it can be more. Try playing with the "Inner Shadow" function in Photoshop, you might improve this. Though this piece kinda reminds me of Narnia- And I do not like Narnia- I'll have to give it a 4.75 overall rating.
Great job. Epic, as some have called it.

This photo always catches my eye if I'm browsing the most popular of all time, and I love it!

The idea has been used many times since, but at the time you took it I'm sure it was far more original. The contrast between the strong sunlight and the dark tree is what makes it so eye-catching, but there are other good elements to the photo as well. For example, the photo is very well composed - the fact that the tree is in the middle of the frame works perfectly. The snowy ground adds further contrast, and breaks up the picture slightly.

The blue tint on the picture gives the rays of light a great strength, and this would not be so if the picture were black and white. The subtle frame is very neat as well.

Keep up the good work, =rorymac666
