Description This is a painting I did of my grandpa, from a picture I have of him when I was a fair amount younger (I think 12). I'm giving this to him as a fathers day present later this month.

This picture is the last one I have of him when he was healthy and happy. A year later, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He wasn't supposed to live more than two years following that pronouncement. However, he's still around today. I don't think he will be much longer, though. He's lost half his body weight (from that pic), and wears jeans smaller than me. He can barely breathe- one of his lungs doesn't function much anymore. Last week he discovered an issue with his vocal chords, and so he can only whisper.

I love my grandpa. I adore him. He and I get along best together, no one else in the family understands him like I do, and he understands me more than most people.

I can't bear to lose him.

This portrait is for him, and is done in black and white because he used to be obsessed with photography and adored black and white photography. He went all around the world with my grandma, and brought back wonderful pictures of places I can only dream of. I hope this will serve as an adequate reminder to us when he's gone of how much life he had in him and what he gave to us.
