Description
gave me permission to color these lines like 2 years ago. Can't believe it's taken me this long to get around to it, but hey, doesn't it look awesome? 8DI specifically chose to ignore *khaamar 's official version so the finished work would be free of any outside bias. I did end up going a little *dcjosh on it though. Wheee!
It feels good to be coloring shiny robots again.

I like your colors. Has a real old school feel I can appreciate.

Thanks so much! Nowadays this picture strikes me as washed-out and boring, but it's always nice to know someone still appreciates it. And I always believe a little tradition in character design goes a long way. :3

I've been reading comics from 70s-80s (X-men and Defenders), and lovin' em, so you can say I'm a old school fan despite my age. I'm also not particularly crazy about shiny everything like what's popular these days.

Yeah, having a piece with a billion shines just distracts from whole picture. Not everything needs to pop out at you, haha.

Well I know many people use bright and shiny colors to distract from the underwhelming line work, which is a real shame for someone like me who loves lines. My ideal is to allow all elements (lines, lighting, and color) to be fully evident.

Exactly! In an ideal world everyone's parts would work together in harmony, but sometimes we don't have the luxury. Can't stop us from dreaming though...

Keep on dreaming then! But you have to take hold of your dreams and make them happen too. I couldn't get an inker or a colorist to help me on my comic, so now I'm learning inking and coloring. It may take longer, but I'll get there.

All it takes is practice and determination! And a lot of time. But mostly the first two! Keep it up!

You too. If you have any pointers on coloring my own work, I'd love to hear it.

Look at tons of tutorials. It took me nearly 4 years to learn the ins and outs of Paint Shop Pro X because I thought I could figure it out myself. And well, I did, well enough, but later I figured out things that would have made my life a loooot easier. Find pictures you like and paste them all up on your walls for reference/worship. And copying is ok for practice purposes. Eventually if you try enough styles you'll mix and match processes and find your own groove.
and are wonderful groups for critique as well.
