Description
On the invitation of Justice Feelgood Marshall (though more like the threat of violence or at least social castigation if I didn't show) I finally attended a Roller Derby bout. I sketched for the first half and sat in rapt awe for the second.

I've never given a damn about accuracy when I draw from a reference, I take a little and then I do what I want with the rest. Taking sketches of girls speeding about on skates is probably the purest distallation of my method. They were all moving too fast to zero in on one alone, so as the group of them went past, I'd take a bit of an arm, or a slant of the figure. The uniforms were similar enough to mark teams but personalized for each girl, so they became a hodgepodge too...
