Description Promotional for "Titus Andronicus".

This is one of the pictures I wanted to keep secret until the exhibition. Unfortunately, we had a cast change so I need to re-shoot this scene. The good side: I can finally show you more of what's coming up in December.

The composition of this piece is quite chaotic to enforce the cinematic feeling of action, movement, celerity.

Please view all pieces of the series.

Rape scene from Titus Andronicus by William Shakespeare.
Actors: Philipp & Georg Blume as Chiron & Demetrius, Sophie Prusa as Lavinia

Is it alright if I used this photo in my Titus Andronicus presentation for my English Class?

Gah, we just did this show. Chiron and Demetrius are psycho-scary-badass-motherfuckers. Also, I like that your Lavinia isn't a dark-haired gothy waif, and that she's actually putting up a fight. Awesome.

Oh, you did? Tell me more!
I directed it last year in an off theatre in Vienna... it was a huge success, despite the un-populatiry of the play. It isn't done very often!

I did mine at the ASC in the States. It was kinda crazy- our Tamora (~hisorpheus) was male (though his hair was three feet long, whch helped). I was Chiron, because our director wanted to have a woman directly involved with Lavinia's rape (not that I look womanly. Like, at all. I was the most androgynous person in the show, barring Tamora). We played a lot with thematic and cultural things, finally settling on a vaguely Japanese theme, with Lavinia playing her character as faintly geisha-like, and honor and respect being an integral part of culture. Aaron spent a lot of his time in the balcony, just watching the action and providing the soundtrack on his beastly awesome violin. The rape sequence music will never leave me.

We were all pretty shocked at the positive reception we got. I'd love to hear about your production- I've been intrested in the show for years, and I've always wanted to direct.

both of these shots really capture the feeling of that play. my only want would be to see more of the girl's expression so that the fear is really present. it might be a good contrast to the sick joy of the men.

Yeah, VERY kinetic shot, some frantic energy going on here. My only thing is, and this is just me, the men look like they're smiling a bit much. Could be from pure evil, or enjoying the parts, I guess, but their expression is just a shade, and I do mean a SHADE, on the having fun side. Probably just me, though.

Yeah, they're quite enjoying themselves in this scene. They love it, it's intentional.

Staged In reply to crowhesghost [2006-08-12 10:04:12 +0000 UTC]

The original play isn't really the best, try to get an "updated" version. Or watch the film by Julie Taymor, it starrs Antony Hopkins and Jessica Lange... it's amazing.

crowhesghost In reply to Staged [2006-08-14 05:23:06 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's Anthony Hopkins, who's amazing to start with. Didn't you say Tidus is one of Shakespeare's earlier plays?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Staged In reply to crowhesghost [2006-08-14 11:01:32 +0000 UTC]

In fact it was his first, yes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crowhesghost In reply to Staged [2006-08-14 11:11:03 +0000 UTC]

Okay. As his first play, then, it may be a little harsh to judge it against his later, better works. He's still learning the craft, after all.

Beethoven, for instance-his first couple of symphonies, while good, still definitly pale to the Fifth or the Ninth.

They learned as they went.

Very nice. I think the comparison with the hunted deer suits this picture nicely as well. The men look really bestial. In my humble opinion though, the photo could use some more contrast. Might be my monitor. I do like the movement a lot.

Staged In reply to Talescaper [2006-08-11 17:22:14 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I think the contrast is pretty high, I don't think it's a good idea to work on that. Probably your monitor...
