That's awesome. Drawing a mech like that is tough enough, but you had the nerve to put it in a dynamic pose to boot!

Have you seen the cool stuff that the guys drawing the Transformers comics can pull off? Those poses are insane!

I just drew a regluar pose like I would for an organic character and built the robot over it, replacing the roundness of muscle with the angles of the lions. The tricky part was fudging anatomy like the shoulders and hips/thigh area to have it still make sense in keeping with Voltron's design.

yay! voltron! I liked the vehicle one better because they never showed the lions one on Mexico

That's too bad about the Lionforce version not airing. The vehicle one is cool too and if I remember correctly the storylines were more involved because of the bigger cast but then again there are a ton of years between what I saw as a kid and what I remember now about Voltron.

Thank you, Nicole! I had so much fun revisiting my childhood with this piece. You did such a great job with the design and layout of the book. It really is a sharp looking example of an artbook! I know who I'm coming too if I ever get good enough to warrant a nice hardcover collection of my stuff.

Nice work, man! What I like about this is that you did something that wasn't the "classic" pose, but one that's equally awesome. Very well done!

stalk In reply to Gunmetalblack [2011-02-15 01:59:29 +0000 UTC]

I was trying to riff on an old Conan the barbarian meets a Samurai movie cool pose where it looks like big V is ready to rumble. Thanks Lew!

Thanks my man! After seeing all the great pieces in the book though it made me wish I had pushed it a bit more. Maybe gone with a more exaggerated perspective or something. Still, I was very pleased with the outcome since I don't really do a lot of boxy type mechs and I haven't drawn Voltron since like the fourth grade!

TheBoo In reply to stalk [2011-02-15 18:55:07 +0000 UTC]

i've never drawn him before lol
I know what you mean, it's always temping with mechs and TF's to do the angles and such, but youve got a powerful picture of him and I think it hits the nail on the proverbial head excellently
