Description I found that my previous space wallpaper, Life, was a little dull and that the elements didn't have enough contrast with each other, so I created this amazing wallpaper that is almost perfect in every way.

Download includes wallpapers for Standard and HD Widescreen resolutions, although it is optimized for widescreen resolutions.

Like most of my creations, everything is created from scratch using Photoshop, except for the nebula which is created in Apophysis.

i disagree with stoned-hippo. the nebula looks like it's expanding and growing, it looks 3D enough and stars in space change density, so its not inaccurate, because if you look closely there are actually quite a lot there. as for the light source, in space light comes from all sorts of different places, from stars, the sun or whatever so i wouldn't say thats wrong either, i kind of agree about the comets they look a little random. it's good that people give different points of view, but there's being overly critical and rude and i hate that

i love it, and think its the same high quality your other space wallpapers are sorry for the essay, but tis true

Thanks for taking the time to comment. So do you think I should remove the comets, re-place them or just leave it as-is?

musicislife1995 In reply to Stamga [2010-06-09 16:00:16 +0000 UTC]

hmm, i'd suggest taking them out, or make them look a little more like comets i think it'd look better with just one of them, and then edit that one to be more like a comet or spaceship, whichever you think is best

stoned-hippo In reply to ??? [2010-06-08 09:33:48 +0000 UTC]

It's not perfect. The nebula looks flat, there aren't enough stars, and the planets' light source seems to be totally random. The little comets on the left don't look real. The composition is nice, apart from the comets, and the colours look sleek, though.

Stamga In reply to stoned-hippo [2010-06-08 12:44:19 +0000 UTC]

I'm really glad that someone took the time to make a critique.

Of course it's not perfect, nothing is perfect.

Making a deep, not-flat nebula using fractal is very hard. If you have any suggestions there, I would be very glad to here them.

As for the light source, I guess I could have shown a little more light in the background, close to the edge on the bottom left to show that there is another source.

The "comets" on the left were actually spaceship trails. However, I can understand the misconception of it. Do you think I should remove them or change their position so they look like actual comets?

Nazo-The-Unsolvable In reply to stoned-hippo [2010-06-08 11:12:53 +0000 UTC]

I find the "aren't enough stars" comment funny.

Space is unpredictable, there are a few places in the sky where you won't see a lot of stars, and around some nebulae as well. The star field is nice.

I don't find the nebula flat, but looks to be expanding.

I do agree on the planets sources of light. I understand the larger planet because there's something on the other side of it, (the "flarey" looking cloud going around it) but the other two... I don't get.

Still, it looks pretty good.

Stamga In reply to Nazo-The-Unsolvable [2010-06-09 00:48:47 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the comment. The reason that the other two planets have a light reflecting on the atmosphere from both sides is basicly because I used the same atmosphere on all the planets and tweaked them a little. I thought of removing one side, but I found that it adds a nice effect to the planet, and that the light surrounding it would explain why the atmosphere is like that. Do you think I should remove one of their atmosphere lights?

Nazo-The-Unsolvable In reply to Stamga [2010-06-09 17:29:21 +0000 UTC]

You know, I can't honestly answer that. It's your project, you do what you believe is the best look.

I can only give an advise about if you wanted to go for realism of lighting in this concept. You should remove one of the lightings on the smaller planets, and dim the other side of the larger planet. Keep the light, just make it more weak.

But you're right, It makes a nice effect, looks cool. Another thing you could do is just upload a separate version. Maybe make it a different color then retouch the atmospheres.

Whatever your decision, good job, friend.
