Description
So, it's been a while since I've done "Theory Time". Not that it stuck around for long. But I figure I should do another one. This time however, it's a little different. So, I was reading up some VeggieTales Creepypastas, and the one Creepypasta which I thought would be average, actually has something spectacular! You probably read this; The Reckoning: A banned VeggieTales episode. Basically what it's about is how a group of militaristic atheists created their own "VeggieTales" episode, in order to eliminate Christianity. And somehow every religion along it. The actual video itself was nothing more but Larry losing his mind, and killing his co-workers/friends. Now when I was reading this, it actually got me hooked. But what people don't know is that there's a hidden lore in the episode itself. To explain what that hidden lore is, I'll have to explain the entire episode. It starts with a black screen and Larry shows up sobbing. But then his sobbing quickly turns to maniacal screaming. The scene cuts out and we see the familiar theme song. Afterwards it went off normally, until Larry starts beating Bob with a baseball bat. The cast quickly came in and restrain Larry. Eventually Jimmy knocks him out cold. Everything seems to be over, until Larry reclaimed the bat and we hear the characters screaming, with a black screen. After that all the characters are salad fixings now. Except for Petunia who shouldn't be included until Duke and the Great Pie War. She slaps him and he revered back to his old self. Realizing what he has done, he begs for forgiveness. First from Petunia. Then at the viewer. This interns show Larry absolutely desperate for forgiveness. Showing us a stock footage of salad being made, and Larry just, like I said loosing it. The final scene is a live action scene of a man walking into a house. He see Larry in his cartoony form, asked the same question, and is immediately killed by the man. Last scene shows him throwing Larry away, and showing us some text. Basically saying "stop believing in this God of yours. Just grow up. He doesn't exist."
That sounds freaky enough, but when reading this story, I felt like there was something familiar about it. So, I was thinking about it, and then the realization kick in. And I was stunned! Now this theory isn't really about how this episode could've caused backlash and scarring. No. It's more about what this episode could have been. The Reckoning episode is kinda like an alternate vesion of The End of Silliness. That sounds absurd I know, but this story actually gives you context clues. And being a hardcore VeggieTales fan, allow me to explain why I think this is an alternate cut of The End of Silliness. First off, we have the year this episode was made. The Atheists spend a lot of time studying Softimage in 1997. The most recent VeggieTales episode to come out of 1997 is Josh and the Big Wall. in there, the Silly Songs with Larry segment didn't go well. Due to the cheap production of said segment. The Atheists finally got it down the following year: 1998. Two VeggieTales episodes came out: Madam Blueberry and The End of Silliness. The first one, Madam Blueberry, it shows Archibald announcing that Silly Songs is canceled because of what happened last time. The follow up episode, shows us a depressed Larry. As he realizes he'll never sing another Silly Song again. This was resolved via a petition to bring back Silly Songs with Larry. THIS episode was made in the exact same year, and the way they portrayed Larry is quite similar. Albeit it's more like a mental breakdown with Larry. Which in of itself is understandable.
Secondly, the way this episode opens up with Larry sobbing like crazy is quite heart wrenching. But his first line of dialog in sequence is "WHY? WHY?! WHY WOULD THEY......", and that's all he said. Upon completing his sentence, he appears to be trying to say "WHY WOULD THEY TAKE AWAY MY SILLY SONGS?!" Now let's back up a little bit. After the Song of Cebu, Archibald announced he's going to speak to Bob about his disappointment. So in between Josh and Blueberry, they talked about what to do with Silly Songs with Larry, and ultimately decided to remove it from the show. For now. Now if we were to take The End of Silliness out of the timeline, and place The Reckoning in, then you can imagine how hurt, angry, and sad Larry must've felt when he learned his segment was stripped away. That's why in the sequence he says "I'll show them all!" He means he's going to get back at them for taking his segment away. Taking what he LOVES away! And that also explains why he attacked Bob first, and not Archibald first! I mean Bob is the main host. He calls all the shots. I would've felt something similar too if someone to what I love away!
I will say though that it is strange that Petunia shows up, when the crowd was restraining Larry. Because like I said before, she didn't debut until Duke and the Great Pie War. Maybe she was supposed to be Lovely (the female asparagus and basically Archibald's wife), or the Esther character, or any other female characters back when VeggieTales was in it's hayday. So, let's say Petunia was a character the Atheists created. And after the lawsuit, Big Idea adopted her. t's the best guess I can come up with. Another thing that's worth mentioning is when the scene went to black and plays all the characters screaming, you can hear the Scallions and Mr. Nezzer's evil laughs. At the end of the Creepypasta, it explains that according to the script, the Scallions and Mr. Nezzer would've helped Larry killed the cast. Then either the four killed themselves or Larry killed them. What confused me about this detail is why would they help him? Ok, I can understand the Scallions, but Mr. Nezzer is a bit of a stretch. Especially after he was given two redemption arcs. Unless this is a new Nezzer. One whose more rotten than the last two. But who knows? Anyway after Larry's rampage, he snapped out of his rage, realizes what he has done, and asks for forgiveness. Pretty in character for Larry, but as they say, once you take a life there's no going back. So, now Larry is desperate for forgiveness. And begins to torture the viewer with chopped up salad (which really doesn't sounds scary), and a picture of him with the salad footage came to life. After this scene it cuts to a live action scene where a man in an anarchy jacket shows up. He goes into a house, which has the iconic counter top. So, it's basically saying this kitchen we have seen for so many years, it belong to this man. Who apparently scoffs at a crucifix. I think this guy that owns the house, he represents Satan. And when Larry looks up at him with sheer remorse, he asks the devil for forgiveness. This is what Larry wants. The Creepypasta said it itself; he wants "forgiveness". But really he just wants his Silly Songs back. So, to him if he asks Satan "forgiveness" (aka selling his soul to him), he'll be alright. But when has Satan ever forgiven someone? He doesn't. And when the man kills Larry, he is now a pawn to him. It then shows him throwing Larry away, to which I think the trash can represents hell. So, now Larry in hell. Does he ever sings Silly Songs again? No ones knows. But as of now, the Larry we know and love is gone! In his place is a soulless monster, with no sense of friendship.
Pretty dark huh? Also yes I am aware I am using a blender render of the kitchen counter top. Please don't get angry with me. It was an honest mistake. But yeah I thought about this and I was amazed at this little detail. It's messed up yes, but you can see where Larry is coming from. I mean if someone took away someone's passion, you would probably crack. May not be instant, but it's a fifty fifty chance. AndΒ if this were to air on television, I don't think people would stop believing in Christ, but I can assure you it would receive a lot of backlash left and right! Now there was a mention about a dogmatic 15 minute home movie of what the Atheists do, but they never showed it. Perhaps that wasn't important because their message is all that mattered. So, I guess they had to edit that out quickly. But those are my thoughts on the Creepypasta.
(Update: I have taken upon myself to fully render this picture! And I'm gonna be honest: this render genuinely terrified me. I'm not as bother by it as before, but this is basically how I would imagine it would look like. Oh. And this render is raw.)
