Description
Well... This was a surprise. Well not THAT big of a surprise, but it was competent. And this is coming from the worst animation company. So I have hearing a lot of buzz about the new Mario movie, and for a while I put it off. Mostly because of the company who worked on it. I thought " aside from being an Illumination movie, there's no way it's doing that good." Then I heard that this alongside Puss in Boots 2 were doing phenomenally, I ultimately decided to see what the fuss is all about. So, that's what I did yesterday. Oh, and I went to go see it with Hannah. Just as a send off for her going to Texas. And sure enough, it was decent.S
There is a critic uproar for this movie, but they're all trying to convince you it's terrible. That's really not the case here. It had one simple goal: Tell the story. Mario isn't really known for having a complex story. Last time they tried this in 1993, it fell flat on it's face. So, they decided "fuck complex stories. Let's just stick to what we know." And you know what? It actually works. If you want complex, look for Metroid, Sonic, Zelda, or anything else. But Mario, nah. I will said though, the movie is really fast. Like there are moments where it just blazes through emotional scenes, action scenes, and even the humor is fast. (This sorta sums up my life.) (Literally a perfect film for the both of us.) The casting you already know I wasn't a fan of in the beginning. Particularly Bowser. I always envision Bowser as a Danny Devito character, because he's sorta sassy enough. But I'll admit, Jack Black was a good call. His segment with "Peaches", oh my god that was the hardest I ever laughed. Same can be said for the writing. Seriously the writing in this movie compared to the writing of Lightyear, is like comparing Danny Phantom to a Bayformer movie. It is that night and day. Same comparison goes for Illumination films too. That really all I have to say here. Other than it looks good. I'll definitely take this over The Little Mermaid remake. (Seriously I'm not watching it, and no one's gonna make me!)
