Nor's vision blurred.

She'd never tried to create so many shadow beasts at once. Maybe her vision wasn't blurring. Maybe her shadow was splitting apart. Yes, that seemed more likely. But still, the jungle around her seemed to shake and quiver. Was it always going to be like this? No, she knew it wouldn't. It was always hard for her to try something new, but with practice, it had always gotten easier. She could make herself completely invisible with ease now, even to the eyes of black souls. Her body was just having a hard time concentrating, that was all.

So she kept pushing it more. She kept forcing her shadow into more duplicates. They were all pitch black with starry pinholes of light in them. And one by one, they rose up off the ground to become tangible forms. They stood facing her. The jungle was all shades of gray, and fuzzy. She was heaving. So were her shadows. She tilted her head. The first shadow did the same. Then the second. One after the other, they were all slightly off, but they did it. She closed her eyes for a second and mentally reached out to one shadow in the middle of the group. It blinked. Step forward, she thought. It stepped forward.

She sighed. She'd done it.

As her shadows faded out of existence and the last one settled back onto the ground where shadows belonged, she looked up at the canopy of the jungle, blinking a few times to clear her vision.

Oordeel was coming back. And she'd be ready for him.
