How are you aΒ hobbyist? This stuff is amazing, I would expect this kind of quality from a professional with years of experience doing this for a living. Fantastic work!
Has a sort of 3D clay feel to it.

I do actually work as a freelance illustrator. Thank you for the complements, Telbat.

This is incredible , you're very talented, the Β work on lights is just perfect, can't find anything that is wrong in this image, congrats. If you're a hobbyist, you should definitely start as freelance cause you're a a PRO level and a high one. Seriously i rarely saw some great value and color like that. Almost like a 3D render but with a painting touch which gives a real emotion to your illustrations. I wish i could paint like that someday. Keep up the good work and video tutos ( with voice if possible ) !Β

Wow, I really appreciate that, LA10signer. I'm glad you like my stuff. To be honest, I'm actually a working freelance illustrator but I've just neglected to change that status.

Ahah you're very welcome, you deserve this a lot. Okay i was telling myself that it was not possible that you were just hobbyist I'm trying to learn to paint and for sure your work is gonna be one of my influences. Got a lot to learn on shapes/values and color and i'm sure i'll be able to catch some good tips just by looking carefully at your illustrations and video tutos too.Β
Hope to see some new stuff soon.
Cheers

Hopefully my next video will be much more informative on how I apply my technique. Not sure when it will be done, though. I'm a bit busy with a few commissions at the moment. Thanks for your comments, mate.

is it from a game or movie or something? or did you just make him yourself?

I made him up myself. I basically started with his teardrop body and started adding parts.

I have down loaded your brushes actually, so thanks for including those. I've never used photo-shop to be honest I just felt instinctively that painter was the way to go. Β I didn't have any specific questions but maybe wondered if you used any particular resources or people you studied to help you achieve and learn. But, as you say, lots of experimentation and practice is going to be the main thing. I shall carry on watching your videos, and I believe you have done a piece for an imagine FX magazine which i will get when i see it here in the UK.Β
Cheers again, it's quality stuff.

Just been watching your video, another excellent job. Can you give any tips for teaching yourself to use Corel painter? I watch what you and others achieve and it really helps but sometimes it's difficult to find out how to do it myself in the software. keep the great work coming.Β

Hmm, well, it's not unlike photoshop in a lot of ways. I keep the brushes I use to a minimum. It took me a long time to find the brushes I'm most comfortable with. I did a lot of experimenting. You can find the brushes i use in the description of some of my videos. Did you have any specific questions?
