UPDATE, December 14th, 2014: I changed the proportions and layout a bit so it could potentially work better as an actual poster.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have an idea for a comic series; specifically, an adaptation of a truly awesome pony fanfiction, which is a G1-G4 crossover. www.fimfiction.net/story/71660…
As an 80s baby, I retain a certain nostalgic attachment to the old, original ponies, even though the writing and characterization for that program truly can’t compare to the new G4. G1 still has its charm for me.
And so, here you have some of my favorite G1 ponies, drawn in something of a G4/G1 hybrid style. Or at least, that’s what I was going for. I hope you like them. I’d never realized before doing this character sheet, just how much “pink” dominates these ponies’ color schemes. XD
More character sheets relating to this personal project of mine are to come. I can’t say when I will be able to truly get started on the comic in earnest, as I am somewhat divided in my activities and responsibilities right now. Hopefully, not too long from now...

UPDATE: In response to a couple of comments, I have edited Button's caption a bit to give her a little more character. I have also added the "wings" to the hearts of Heart Throb's cutie mark. The "wingless" version was something I observed in a screen shot of the show, but apparently that must have been an animation error, as most other sources indicate that the hearts have wings. Just thought that was noteworthy.
My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic, and its style of illustration, are the creations of Lauren Faust.
Original G1 pony characters are the creations of Bonnie Zacherle.

There seems to be an appeal to try to fit G1 characters (or at least copies of them) in the G4 universe, particularly as the writers seem to try to fit them in themselves whenever possible...

I'm a "My Little Pony" fan, so I'm impressed with your G1/G4 hybrid character models. Maybe you should consider working with IDW Publishing on their G4 "MLP" series with the style you came up with.

I see twilight sparkle would also get along with galaxy and paradise (both have a thing for books)
gusty would butt head against applejack and rainbow dash
speaking of dashie, she would love to have races against whizzer
pinkie pie would constantly try and cheer both shady and gusty up or help lickity-split with party planning or helping cupcake and gingerbread in the kitchen
surprise would easy scare fluttershy for a laugh
fluttershy would deffinly get along with shady and the creatures of dream valley like bushwoolies, stonebacks, the witches from the volcano of gloom's pet spider
rarity would getting along with truly and heart throb
g1 spike would either laughing at fim version with rarity or doing the gagging motion
not sure who FIM applejack get along with proballey posey because she takes care of a large garden or giving tex some cowpony lessons

Nice thoughts. Given what you described, I see a lot of potential for chemistry between these G1 and G4 characters. Possibly grounds for a fanfiction.
As it happens, I have the captions written for most of the Little Pony character sheets I have yet to do, and though you probably wouldn't know this yet, I think Applejack would get along very well with G1 Cherries Jubilee, Magic Star, Twilight the Pegasus, and Scoops. They are all very dependable characters with a sense of personal integrity and work ethic.
Posey and Tex probably as well though.

Yes, I have a whole line up of G1 ponies I plan to do. The Big Brothers will get their own character sheet. Although, that's a bit off at this point. I still have three more Little Pony character sheets, then the Flutter ponies, then the sea ponies, then the Baby ponies, and then Majesty and the Princess ponies.....
It won't necessarily be in that order, but the Big Brother character sheet has to compete with all those others. XD

First of all, I'd like to say I think they all look very lovely in their own way and that I love how you gave them all different mane styles instead od letting them have the same like in the official show. Particulary like Heart Throb and Buttons here^^

Side question: what's up with the gem eyes that some of them have?

The ponies with the gem eyes are called "Twinkle Eye ponies". Really, they were ultimately part of Hasbro's marketing campaign to sell toys with "sparkly" eyes.
But there really is a canonical backstory to them. I suggest you look up an old storybook comic strip called "Applejack's Adventure". It explains the origin of the Twinkle Eye ponies.
In fact, the comic series I've got coming up will depict an elaborated (and much more intense) version of that story. I much look forward to it.

They did say that there will be someone in season 4 who will give pinkie "a run for her money" in terms of partying. and something tells me that pony will probably have G1 Surprise's color scheme.....if not Surprise, herself.

I hope not. My head canon says that Surprise lived thousands of years ago, in the pre-Equestrian world of "ponyland".
I suppose if they go that route, I can just assume the "real" G1 Surprise is a distant ancestor of both G4 Surprise, and Pinkie Pie.

This is perfect for me. Recently my curiosity started to get the better of me and I started researching and watching G1.
And the strangest part of all is that I'm starting to remember stuff about a show I thought I didn't like, when I was little.

That's great. While the show really doesn't compare, objectively, to G4 in terms of characterization, its problems really weren't worse than those of other such cartoons at that time.
I personally consider it the best incarnation of MLP, after G4, and it deserves a healthy amount of love and respect.
