Description
UPDATE, December 14th, 2014: I changed the proportions and layout a bit so it could potentially work better as an actual poster.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have an idea for a comic series; specifically, an adaptation of a truly awesome pony fanfiction, which is a G1-G4 crossover. www.fimfiction.net/story/71660…
As an 80s baby, I retain a certain nostalgic attachment to the old, original ponies, even though the writing and characterization for that program truly can’t compare to the new G4. G1 still has its charm for me.
And so, here you have some of my favorite G1 ponies, drawn in something of a G4/G1 hybrid style. Or at least, that’s what I was going for. I hope you like them. I’d never realized before doing this character sheet, just how much “pink” dominates these ponies’ color schemes. XD
More character sheets relating to this personal project of mine are to come. I can’t say when I will be able to truly get started on the comic in earnest, as I am somewhat divided in my activities and responsibilities right now. Hopefully, not too long from now...

As always, any and all constructive criticism is welcome.
UPDATE: In response to a couple of comments, I have edited Button's caption a bit to give her a little more character. I have also added the "wings" to the hearts of Heart Throb's cutie mark. The "wingless" version was something I observed in a screen shot of the show, but apparently that must have been an animation error, as most other sources indicate that the hearts have wings. Just thought that was noteworthy.
My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic, and its style of illustration, are the creations of Lauren Faust.
Original G1 pony characters are the creations of Bonnie Zacherle.
All generations of My Little Pony are the intellectual property of Hasbro.

Thank you very much.
I looked carefully at this. The winged hearts pattern is seen only on BABY Heart Throb. Adult Heart Throb just has those three hearts in a vertical row.
I suggest you re-watch the episode "The Glass Princess". It provides some very clear shots of Heart Throb's cutie mark.

Canonical details will always be a matter of debate, especially with a show as old as this, which was hand-drawn, with a modest budget.
If I have to choose whether to go by a shot from the show, or by a toy, I would personally go with what I see in the show.

Toy [not counting so-soft version] AND art in most sources depict Heart Throb with winged hearts, and cartoon is known to have tons of errors-pink twin babies are actually supposed to be unicorns, for example. Not to mention that show was done after toys were.
That's just plain stupid.

Yeah, I guess so. I also noticed subtle irregularities in the exact appearance of cutie marks, or of the exact shades of certain colors in their color schemes.
They didn't have computers in those days to keep everything the same in every frame.

I like the design and the choice of ponies. Though, I would have included Paradise, and North Star was well.

I wonder how the show would have turned out if they ended up using the original cG1 designs for the new main cast?

I like the aesthetic that Lauren Faust came up with for G4, but I think the important thing is just how the characters are writtern. So I'm sure it would have been just as good, but with a different look.
