i'd rather them be a new pokemon, like when they added the evolutions for dusclops and magneton, for example

Yeah, new evolutions are good. But I think it is best to wait and see how everything works in the game before reaching a final conclusion. Yeah, Mega Evolutions do seem ridiculous, but I think the fun part will be seeing what happens with them.
