Description Les Mis doodles, this time depicting the best moments of the spring's last performance in Turku, Finland. Nothing here is from my own imagination - except for the character's faces, which are more from my mind than reality. I'm not that great with cartoonifying real people.

Up, three Marius fans saying goodbye to Glenn Daniel Nilsson in his last performance. I couldn't agree more - he was an adorable Marius!

Below them on the right, Rune Sæter as Enjolras with an unidentified Gavroche Lasse Sjöström, thanks ~Cor-Angars ! It was May Day, so the cast took their bows blowing party horns and with streamer around their necks. Unfortunately Sæter's horn didn't work.
Their costumes are white-ish, by the way, because all the most important dead characters come to sing the Finale in whiter versions of their dying costumes.

On the left, Joachim Thibblin as Thénardier (hey, look, I drew Thénardier!), making Little Eponine prettier with streamer during curtain call.
Note, by the way, which famous revolutionary's inaccurate but iconic costume Finnish/Swedish Thénardier's costume reminds you of...

Below them on the left, I tried to portray Alexander Lycke's creepy-ish expression when he gestured the whole cast to join him to take the final bow. I didn't quite manage to capture the proper mood.
Valjean's number is 25601 in Swedish because 4 has a syllable too many to fit the lyrics.

On the right, the traditional Valjean/Javert brohug during curtain call.

Below them on the left, a moment from Master of the House. I don't know if it was an accident, a prank or done on purpose, but I couldn't help laughing when that guy raised his glass and everything inside it splashed on his head...

And, finally, on the down right, Grantaire teasing Marius about Cosette.
Uh, heh... I think R shouldn't dress himself on his own, since he clearly doesn't know how to. You're not supposed to wear two vests at once. Consult Courfeyrac or someone next time, will you?

Les Mis is not mine.

If I remember right it was Lasse who was Gavroche the last 3 days, I'm impressed that you actually managed to make him look alot like Lasse.

Oh. Wow.
I never though anyone from the theatre would actually see my drawings. Wow. Hi. And thanks so much!

If you don't mind me asking, what did you do in the production? As you can probably tell from my gallery, I'm a huge fan of it - so I'd of course love to know!

Cor-Angars In reply to Starlene [2011-05-12 17:40:17 +0000 UTC]

Well, I didn't really have a big role in it myself! I was one of the extras, one of the "standard four" as we called it (that means that I was one of the 4/12 who were on the show every day) but some of the actors thought I had better check on what they were doing then they had themselves. (At least that's what it stood on the diploma I got for "the year's rescue") ) So when someone were a stand-in they sometimes asked me about details.

If you would wonder, my most noteable appearence was the dead soldier next to Marius during the sewers which Thénardier took a watch from (he even sings about it when he takes it).

Wow, that sounds so sweet! From a fan's point of view being in Les Mis every day sounds like a dream come true of course - but I've been wondering if it's like that when you really do it, or do you get bored with it at times? I can listen to the music a lot, but hearing it so many times a week...

I sat in the second row last time I saw the show and got to observe your dead soldier portrayal skills up close, then - you definitely made a very convincing corpse! Seriously though, I've raved all around the internet about how much I love the ÅST production to every last member of the ensemble, so that of course includes you too! It's rare to see a show with such good cast!

Also, if any fun anecdotes about the show pop to your mind, feel free to tell them to me. My fangirl-y heart would melt with joy. I think should shut up now though, I don't want to be scary...

Cor-Angars In reply to Starlene [2011-05-13 12:22:49 +0000 UTC]

Tricky question, but during the entire production; there was only one moment where I thought for myself: "Man, what have you gotten yourself into?"
Otherwise I was like a kid in a candy store who was paid to eat everything! I wouldn't trade my time there for anything in the world.
But who knows, if we would have had a different director or different actors, maby I would have grown bored of them! But with those people, I could have done this forever.

I also appreciated hearing from someone outside the theater about my dead-soldier-character!

If I had to pick one moment I think it was when I was given the diploma, it was saint Lucy's day and the theater was gathered to celebrate! Markus (the one who for example played Bamatabois) granted the four "honor order" diplomas which he spoke:

"This person has during the autumn worked as an extra in "Les Misérables" and has during that time gotten compleate check on the show. In some cases he has better check on what the actors are doing then the actors has themselves.
During one show, Rune Sæter begun changing to his last entré despite have another scene, the extra did however see to remind him about the scene and therefor saved Rune's hide"
I could probably write a book about my time in les mis and still not cover everything I would have to say about it! But that was the greatest moment for me.

That's so awesome! I couldn't help giggling at the diploma thing - you're a true lifesaver! Wow!

Hmm, actually, I've an idea.
I'm a co-admin of a deviantART-based Les Mis fanclub called #LesMisClub (and also a wannabe theatre critic/journalist with a a small theatre blog) - so I was wondering if you would be interested in doing a little interview for LesMisClub's blog and/or my blog? About every second member of LesMisClub dreams of being in Les Mis one day, but we don't hear much "insider" information of any productions. So, I'm sure many of the members would find it very interesting to read about your experiences of being a part of a professional Les Mis production - but of course only if you feel comfortable doing an interview!
If you would like to do an interview, I could send you the questions via e-mail, for example (I'm fluent in Finnish and English, but unfortunately my Swedish is at such a basic level I don't really dare to use it). I would of course let you read the interview and ask for your approval of before submitting it to anywhere.
How about it?

Thank you so, so much! You can bet there are Mizzies out there who'll really appreciate your effort! Now, I'll have to take some time to figure out some clever questions myself... But expect to see them tomorrow or Sunday at the very latest. And take your time answering, there's no hurry!
One last question: shall I use English in the questions, or Finnish?

Aww, bless their little brohug. How awesome. :3
And whoaa, that whole thing with their dead costumes being washed-out versions of their living costumes is actually a very brilliant idea! Again, the movie makers really need to consult less mainstream versions of the play for ideas...

Maaaaaaan I wish I could have seen this! The white costumes idea is really cool (this is coming from someone who pretends to be a costumer and plans out elaborate themes for shows she will never do) and I legit thought that you had drawn a dirty innkeeper version of Enjolras for a moment.

Starlene In reply to FlammableWolf [2011-05-06 19:28:14 +0000 UTC]

I think the Thénardier design is their weird way of paying homage to the original production - they can't not know the vest is a complete replica of Enjy's.

I've been wondering if anyone actually reads those, glad to know at least you do... Thanks so much!
Don't remember talking of French girls though - from all I know, they can be as well Finnish as Australian, I've no way to know where they were from.

Does Javert come out in the finale in this production?? I love when they do that. It always makes me sad when they exclude him.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Starlene In reply to cinekimi [2011-05-05 06:04:43 +0000 UTC]

Yep, he does - though the Thénardiers also have a front-row spot...
But even before the last part of the Finale, Javert is there by Valjean for the Epilogue, just like Fantine, Eponine, Enjolras, Grantaire and Gavroche - the most important dead characters. They sit around him to quide his way to heaven - it's a lovely thing to see.
