Description Massive, imposing, expensive, somewhat cumbersome. Described as "overkill, even for Humanity" by the IGC and "The pinnacle of Human arrogance" by the Unalli Federation.

First launched in 4440, the Starlite Aerospace HD-10 Firedrake II. Better known by it's UESN designation of "Divinity-class" DSC (Dreadnought-SuperCarrier) represents the knowledge of over 2,400 years of human space flight experience.

Utilizing a split-geometry warp drive, a technology many thought impossible not 10 years before. She is able to achieve speeds unmatched by all but the fastest, purpose built racing ships while maintaining a far slimmer profile than traditional warp engines allow, even for a ship of her immense size.

At just over 10 miles long, the Divinity-class is the largest, purpose-built intergalactic warship known to exist - ever. As such, they dwarf their predecessor and previous record-holder, the Tunguska-class Heavy Combat Cruiser (HCC).

Though many ships are bigger, much bigger in fact. Such as the Aquarius-class of "hypertanker" terraforming vessels. None are built for combat and wouldn't survive a sustained attack from even a small gunship.

Despite how tough they are, they're not invincible and their guns do have blind spots. Which is why they tend to travel with a large fleet and stay towards the back, as they're primary mission is to provide mobile, support infrastructure to it's primary battle group.

Some of these blind spots are due to cost-cutting rather than design flaws. As of 4448, 10 Divinity-class vessels have been built and are in active service. A further 120 are planned total, with 3 already under construction.

All of these however are and will be the "Mod-1" or "Model 1" variant. A significantly scaled back version of the original design. Though the hull, external decks, and warp engines are the same; The original design called for more weapons, more reactors, and a second, ventral ramscoop among quite a few other things.

It was deemed to be too expensive in that configuration and as such, many components were flat out removed. Such as the middle set of weapons towers, called "Siege towers."

The ability for the aft drive rings to fold down, which greatly reduces their ability to land. Three, out of the nine planned reactors, and even portions of the armor plating were cut back in spots.

With nothing being put in their place aside for some basic covers, so the majority of the ships have a lot of extra storage space that they weren't intended to have.

One however, was built to the original specs. The only "Mod-0" Divinity-class dreadnought, Nineveh, registery number UESN-101, flagship of the UESN 2nd fleet.

Nineveh has her middle towers, extra reactors, ventral ramscoop, and everything else she was intended to have.

The mission statement of "Proactive patrol" is somewhat ambiguous at best. Basically, they are one of the few fleets that goes out and looks for trouble instead of waiting for it to find them, or worse. Some innocent freighter or colony.

The 2nd fleet is by all accounts, the Alliances' most elite combat unit and their flagship is automatically granted the "101" registry. The previous flagship, in this case the heavy cruiser Incursion was redesignated UESN-44321 and made the lead ship in the fleets cruiser element under the command of Capt. Mikhail J. Pankov.

The 2nd fleet mainly patrols the distant boarders of Terran space, often for years at a time. Mostly near the VR Republic and XiXi space as this is where the bulk of violent piracy and armed conflicts take place, or at least start.

However, in the past, and before Nineveh, they did patrol other places. They tend to go where the most trouble is.

Because of their missions statement, being a mobile space port in ever sense of the word on the outer reaches of the frontier of space, they're some of the most comfortable warships ever made on the inside.

They truly are cities in space and have everything from bars and swimming pools to grocery stores and advanced VR simulators. The ship itself actually requires a relatively small crew to operate.

Ten to fifteen thousand is about the average though it's built to operate even if it's crew is totally incapacitated. In which case it will set course for home. However that's JUST to operate the ship itself. Not the hanger, not the amenities, and certainly not the other ships and their crews that may be docked.

When all is said and done, 250,000 people will easily be serving in some capacity on board during normal operations, but that's hardly her limit. The DSC is capable of "comfortably" transporting up to 15,000,000 humanoid beings. Theoretically, it could carry many more if the full area of the internal hanger was utilized.

Some designs for massive, modular housing/habitat units have been proposed, but nothing has ever been built as purpose built relief vessels already serve this role quite well.

In some rare events, civilians are allowed to remain on board indefinitely at the Admirals discretion.

This is done for those who truly have no where else to go but have done nothing wrong. Those who are lost in space and don't know how to get home, or maybe can't for whatever reason.

Some are there for political reasons, some are informants and/or dissidents that no one else would take. Some are orphans. Others are there because their home world was destroyed or in the case of Alex Kincaid, who was quite literally lost in time.

Around 30-40 non-crew members live on Nineveh permanently and they all, aside from those that are truly frail are expected to contribute in some way and, if physically capable, they must pass a series of tests.

These tests include basic first aide and trauma care, firefighting and damage control, firearms use and safety, and of course, and understanding of basic ships functions and terminology. The ladder being the most important, as a confused civilian wondering the corridors during a general quarters alarm is less than helpful to say the least.

Living on a Divinity-class is a decent life. Good food, relatively comfortable for a warship; There's always something to see and do. This is true whether your stationed there, visiting, or live their permanently.

Many of her senior staff and those who've been with the unit the longest also call Nineveh "home"
Many don't even have residence elsewhere, which can be a bit annoying during routine maintenance when the ship needs to be emptied. Other accommodations need to be made for those who don't go home for those few weeks.

The one major drawback to living on board is the subtle, high pitched noise that's ever present throughout the ship as an unavoidable effect of the massive kugelblitz generator systems.

At first, it's beyond annoying, then you get use to it and some even have trouble sleeping when it's not there after long periods on board.
The better a species ears, the more pronounced and intolerable the buzz is.

Humans get use to it rather fast as their hearing is minimal next to an Unalli, Mi'arr, or even an android.

Androids, regardless of their external appearance or place of manufacture can almost always digitally block the frequency and make it inaudible but biological beings can't without significant cybernetic augmentation.

Not everyone has, or wants such things so the entire crew compartment is isolated and insulated to dampen the sound as much as possible.

The only other major downfall that's been made public is the fact that the ships tend to be cold inside, or at least they were in the beginning. They're so large that the heater didn't work for lack of a better term.

Keeping it cool wasn't an issue the builders and engineers thought it would be, keeping it warm on the inside turned out to be; Though this issue has been largely remedied.

The most glaring issue they face that isn't publicly known to the same extent is that the new drive tech has some major issues with reliability.

It's actually very common for a DSC to warp into a combat zone on 6/8 engines because two of them just decided not to function properly that day. Then they just come back online mid fight, or after it's already over with no clear explanation.

Despite the issues, the DSC is an amazing force projector, bringing most of the capability of the Alliances' best shipyards along to the front lines of and distant frontiers of the cosmos. It greatly expands the reach of the Terran Alliance and allows greater fleet endurance during long term combat operations.

It's shear size alone is an extremally effective weapon in and of itself. Simply showing up on a planets scopes is usually enough to, if not end the conflict outright then at least reopen negotiations.

Among the Voidrunner Republic and around it's boarders, to say to someone that they "Fired on the dreadnought" is to say they made a mistake so blatantly stupid that they deserved the outcome.

This phrase actually predates the Divinity-class by centuries and has since spread well beyond the VR republic to the point it is a common, colloquial term amongst all worlds with Alliance or VR influence.

Tunguska-class heavy cruisers, and to a lesser extent, Syracuse-class assault cruisers have been referred to, incorrectly as "Terran Dreadnoughts" by the general public and entertainment industries since they day they first took to the skies.

It's often theorized that this phrase, and the nearly universal mindset behind it was at least partially the reason the Divinity-class got the title of "Dreadnought" in the first place.

As it was the first vessel in eons to bare the menacing title officially.

On top of being clad to the brim with traditional armor, the DSC is also exceptionally well shielded with a triple layer, triple redundant gravitic shield grid that can defend against all but the most powerful weapons.

Each section of the ship has it's own, triple redundant power and life support systems, meaning the Divinity-class is in many ways several hundred spaceships, joined to make one big one. All wrapped tightly up in her three graphene-reinforced titanium armored hulls.

On the inside, ultra-light weight, ballistic-rated materials make up everything from the computer terminals to bulkheads and lighting fixtures. Indeed nearly everything.

This helps too prevent spalling and shrapnel spread which minimalizes the damage radius in the event of kinetic hall breaches as well as provide cover in the event the ship is boarded.

Anyone who's ever served on a DSC in combat will tell you that there's no safer feeling and no better place to sleep. Even with enemy fire bouncing off the hull, you can physically hear the thickness and sturdiness of the structure around you when it reverberates from the impacts.

"At first, it's terrifying. You hear the general quarters alarm, get to your stations and by the time you do. Tens of thousands of rounds are already blasting into the hull just above you, and you're sure they're coming through any second."

"You're waiting, staring up, envisioning what it will look like when they get through. You want to run but there is simply no where to go.

"You're scared, shaking in your boots. Nothing is scarier than the idea of getting spaced. I know for a fact guys have shit themselves their first time they heard rounds hit the hull."

"Then, it happens for so long that something just clicks in your brain and you're not as worried. You're still fairly sure that when you see the outside of the ship, everything will be torn off and it'll be scrap metal. You'll probably be captured because, there's no way the engines are still in tact, right?

"Then as the hits keep coming, you noticed they've slow down considerably and it eventually becomes amusing. Like "How many more rounds do they even have!?" Right?"

"You simply can't believe how little damage is being done, I can't imagine how those poor bastards must have felt.. Then the rounds finally stop and everything goes quiet.. Dead quiet.  A few moments later we get the order to stand down from general quarters... All clear, threat neutralized.

"We never fired shot, never deployed fighters or scrambled the fleet. We just let them run out of ammo then when they did; Demand they surrender. The only damage we suffered was our freshly painted, shiny blue hull was pretty much totally sandblasted to bare metal."

"Only on the port side though. That was it, not a single shot got through. I don't think we had to replace much more than a few dozen armor plates that had been hit enough to slowly chip them away."

"The shields tore their rounds up so bad, that it was basically just debris hitting the hull. Our shields never went above 5% capacity either, that's what I was told. I never, ever felt unsafe on that ship again for my entire career."

-EC-3 Elliot McDonald. Former UESN hull repair technician assigned to UESN-101, Nineveh. Describing the "Envuhr'baal Incident".
