Old art that I've been debating about posting or not and finally did after literal years.It was Estonia week in tumblr a long time ago. I wanted to join, but only got the first day done. orz The theme was "time travel", I think. Estonia comforting kid!Estonia and giving him a peptalk and a hug, because if anyone knows how much the kid needs it, it's him.

i actually had an idea of ana doing this one time. like she went back in time, told him that a lot of bad things would happen, but he would make it out alright and then when she left he was crying and begging her not to go. ;;

I like to talk about Ana, okay?
It kinda just came around as a term and finally a defining character trait for all of my OC's that are a spouse to a nation. It came around because I had originally planned for her to die at the hands of Russia. And then I realized that I couldn't kill her off. The way my old friend RP'ed Estonia had really interested me in the country and character and... well. I thought that she had the potential to become a better character than she was. So, as she lay there bleeding to death and Eduard tries to stop her bleeding with his military jacket... she may have died...? I'm honestly not so sure. Either she was very close to dying or she took a little trip to Limbo (I have a headcanon that personifications go there if a wound is severe enough, chill there for 24 hours, and then hop back up). Well, her name literally means "resurrection;" I couldn't just kill her off! That was also when she started wearing Eduard's jacket off of her shoulders; it's the same jacket he used to try and stop her bleeding. I also imagine that she has a scar across her clavicle from that incident since it was a significant part of her "history" per say.
So, I basically have two options that I have been considering for this; either a spouse has to die and visit Limbo to earn their stripes as partner to a nation, or after they marry and make love to a nation their souls "bond," in a sense. Proof of this bond takes the form of a tattoo the spouse gets to sumbolize their commitment to their nation. Are you familiar with His Dark Materials? It takes place in an alternate universe where people's souls are manifested as an animal, called your dæmon. If your dæmon gets hurt, you get hurt. If your dæmon is killed, you are killed. It's kinda the same idea, in my mind. I think some of my characters have different abilities concerning their bond, like some can sense when their partner is close, or what their emotional state is.
I also imagine that after a country and spouse are bonded, the spouse is either able to see every memory of the nation's or only the historically significant ones (and therefore not being able to see ones that the nation chooses to keep to themself deep in their heart. Cue black psychelocks). Whatever the case, Ana is quite vehement in her hatred for Russia. Ana by herself doesn't forgive easily, let alone all those years of hardship... I think she has every right to feel that way.
So, long story short... yes and no? //shank'd Like, she doesn't really personify anything... I just think she shares Eesti's burden of nationhood.

Yep, pretty much. I'm still debating about whether or not if he gets hurt that she will as well, though. I also have a fancanon that since his eyesight sucks, she'll eventually need glasses as well. I also imagine that her bond enables her to sense Eesti's emotional state since he does such a good job at hiding it from others. Ana's tattoo is a barn swallow on her right hip since I imagine Eduard being right handed, while Katie (Lithuania's wife) has a Vytis symbol on her back to kinda associate with his scars.
It is! But I think that it's a bit of weight off of the nation's shoulders; someone is there to tell them it's all going to be okay. ;u;

Agreed! I also think Estonia is a person who hides his feelings really well, even to those closest to him. The ability to sense what he's feeling is definitely useful!

I put two on this year, one in February and another in July under a slightly different format (running month-long instead of a week), but they proved to be unpopular. D: I'd like to try again next year but I'm still unsure when I'll put them on. We'll see!
