Cobalt did not really know what exactly had started calling him towards the ocean that morning. But he knew something was trying to get his attention. It was almost like distant singing but seemed to be coming from the ocean itself; a new chorus with each wave against the shore. It almost sounded like drums against the tidal pools. Cobalt stood as if transfixed looking out towards the reef that surrounded his cove. Winter, his Aprico, was anxiously circling around his ankles and pawing at his knees to try and get his attention. But Cobalt was listening to the song of the sea wondering if he should go follow the sound. Cobalt lashed his tail, his green eyes wide as he struggled with his decision. Finally, Cobalt stepped forward and stumbled towards the surf, the waves seeming to grab and wrap around his ankles as he waded deeper. Winter followed along chirping her concern but entered the water with Cobalt. Cobalt, for his part took in a deep breath before diving under the surface, and then began to swim out towards the reef. The song got louder, it seemed to sing with a call that pulled at the heart strings. Not a song of sorrow but rather a song that spoke of a journey to come a part of the puzzle of life. Cobalt reached the reef, fish scattering at his approach, and turned to look around, trying to find the source of the song. It seemed to come from deeper water, out past the reef, and Cobalt only hesitated for a few moments before swimming out towards the deeper regions of the reef. He surfaced briefly, just long enough to take a gulp of air, and then dove down into the drop off beyond the reef. Winter followed behind.
