Springtime has finally returned, and so too has the wandering harmonica-playing minstrel. I remember watching the 90's Moomin anime as a kid, and it took me until my adult years to really learn about the author and how her books left such an impact. And why not? The themes, characters, adventures, and arcs give that sense of familiarity and being home even though you're in a brand new magical world.

Might be a bit of a no-brainer, but I think Snufkin is my favorite character of Moominvalley. He's introverted, independent, keeps to himself but doesn't like being left out, is close to select few, and has moments of being a wise adult or a playful child at times. Also, in one of the stories and the video game Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, he's a bit of a vigilante against those who use authority unfairly. Gotta love a character who seems to play only by his own rules, but knows to do what's best for his friends and the people he cares about (where I have I seen that kind of morale before...)

Speaking of the video game that just released, I personally found it to be the perfect way to welcome springtime. The gameplay is easy enough, it's relaxing, has a fair amount of challenge, the music and art direction are both gorgeous, the story itself feels a tad short yet easy to understand, and the characters we know and love (as well as the very few we actually hate) are all there! after completing it for the first time, I wanted to try my hand at drawing Snufkin, referring to the design we see in the game. A screenshot also helped out with the background as well. This is my first time drawing him, and though it's not perfect, I hope it's recognizable as Snufkin.

Here's to warmer days, birds singing, and nature's beauty awakening! Play on, Snufkin!
