Description
Since I have a LOT of backed up old art, I decided to start releasing them again if they were good enough! And this one certainly is! I often think about recreating it!This specific old sketch comes from, IIRC, September 2014 (don’t have the exact date) and is similar to my old works like Harpies or Cherubs , a depiction of what a potential non-pony species looks like in my headcanon!
In my idea, Ibexes would have been the replacement of Somnambula’s people (not yet created when I drew this), the Gaian/Equestrian (Gaia being my headcanon for what the planet Equestria is on is called) equivalent to Egyptians in real life.
I really love how stylized I made their bodies, and I regret making the male ibexes as stocky as they are, I feel I should have had his legs skinnier, perhaps keeping them larger at the hooves, even, like how Grgogar’s hooves in canon work. The male ibexes have too many markings on their legs, and I genuinely don’t remember why, but despite that, I still really adore these designs.
I believe part of the reason these guys never made it to print, so to speak, was that I had a hard time remembering how I planned to finalize their jewelry and manes/beards, given the slight lack of definition there in the sketch. Especially hard to see is that I intended for the male ibexes to have a similar amount of jewelry to the females; it was just mainly on the horns.
Notes I remember about how they were designed;
The males ears always point forward and their tails point up (though I disliked how the tail came out on them) and their mane is the same color as their fur, while the beards are equivalent to the female’s manes, while the females ears point outwards and their tails down, while they have colored manes.
Both have eyes that are colored in a style similar to Discords, but in actual coloring were going to be akin to Iron Will’s goat assistants.
The idea for their color schemes were that they’d generally be natural colors, while their manes would range from dark purple or blue to just regular black or brown, generally dark colors.
