"The missing members of Sector Z thank you."
You may have noticed that I kind of like the Delightful Children. A bit. But does the same extend to their original counterparts?
Absolutely! We just don't know enough about the five of them, compared to their Delightful counterparts, they have nearly nothing known about them besides what we can infer from their short time as their old selves. We know their Numbuh's, and most of their positions in their Sector, and four out of five of them have names, with Ashley the only fanon name left. Other than that... it's all up to us, though we can always try to use logic to deduce certain things, their true nature will almost certainly always remain a mystery.
Sector Z was a legendary sector of the Kids Next Door that mysteriously disappeared without a trace, lost and considered to be the best of their time, they remain a legend enough to be remembered in the official Museum of KND, but... they never left. In reality, their disappearance was a kidnapping, taken by Benedict Uno, otherwise known as Father, and brainwashed permanently into a horrifying hive minded and psychically attached parody of 'perfect' children. They were Delightfulized, but not normally, fused together in a manner after a malfunction in Father's Delightfulization chamber increased the power to absurd levels when a fuse blew, permanently erasing their individual identities and creating their ambiguously defined hive mind and hive body. The transformation is permanent, to the point where they barely had an hour apart at the best when a Recommissioning device was used on them.
One thing that is very interesting is that only Bruce had blue eyes originally, with the rest different, and Constance's eyes are covered, but likely not blue. That ties into the distressing fact I brought up about the five of them as Delightful Children; the implications of what Father believes to be a perfect child is... rife with unfortunate implications. While the design and actions of the Delightful Children are inspired and mirror the children in 'The Village of The Damned/The Children Of The Damned', one thing they all share that is rather... symbolically interesting and distressing is the fact that every Delightful Child has bright sky blue eyes, even the ones turned from their original color,, and two out of the five have blonde hair, Bruce and Ashley. Three out of five are white, Bruce, Ashley and David, while Constance is significantly lighter skinned as a Delightful Child than she was as Numbuh 0.5, as well as being forced into gender conforming clothes that she never wore as an individual, being androgynous to the point that not everyone would recognize her as a female without knowing her as a Delightful Child, while she wears pigtails and a schoolgirl outfit as a Delightful Child.
Lenny is the only black kid in the group, and his might be the most telling. As Numbuh 0.4, he wore standard KND higher up armor, but as a Delightful Child, his entire face is covered up, the only thing showing being his bright blue eyes shining through the helmet that obscures all of his facial features. The only black child of the group's features are always obscured, and it's shown that the braces that he wears that form the football headgear are not something he naturally wore when he was a Kids Next Door Operative, meaning Father forced him to wear the braces that form a facial covering. The only parts of him that are not obscured are his legs and hands, otherwise, he wouldn't be recognized as black. This implies, rather disturbingly, that Father chose to cover him up the most, and his image of a perfect child includes obscuring those who aren't white or blonde, with David's eyes obscured by his bangs, while Ashley and Bruce are the most prominent and unobscured of the group, the only ones who have completely visible eyes, the other three having their eyes obscured by various methods, and all of their eyes have been changed to bright blue, even Bruce had deeper blue eyes rather than the unnatural sky blue that they share now.
Now, we do have some circumstantial evidence to certain things about them, at least, beyond what was said in canon. Or at least, each displays a certain amount of personality, either from their dialogue, though minimal, or appearance. To see more about that, I recommend clicking on said Operative's Numbuh at the top.
We know, for one, they're all extremely high ranked KND operatives, though that should be obvious, considering they're considered 'legendary', it's further supported by the fact that Lenny and Ashley are both wearing headgear that the Moonbase Operatives wear, though customized, and Ashley's outfit resembles Numbuh 362's combat gear. One interesting thing that the other three wear are berets, which aren't seen in other KND operatives, and the same three also wear ammunition belts around their chest, though pocketed, and Numbuh 0.5 even wears glasses similar to Numbuh 1... Or, more likely, Numbuh 0. Who she seems to intentionally be emulating; her clothing colors are similar to his and her hairstyle is very close to his as well.
No one knows for sure when Sector Z was around, but with, once again, circumstantial evidence and some logical deductions, we can figure out that they... were not a recent team. Sector Z is not a KND sector that disappeared recently. Considering that there currently is a Sector Z in Japan, it's been replaced for a while now. Along with the fact that they were considered lost forever, and that they're considered a part of KND history to be held in the museum, the fact they're legends that Numbuh 1 has heard of, just like he's heard about Numbuh 0, and get fanboyed over almost as hard.. and their numbers. The closest numbers to 0. They may be a lot older than they seem, far older, but they aren't able to grow up as Delightful Children. Adding to the evidence to their age being more than how they look, the Delightful Children kidnapped Nigel and did something horrible to him to make him lose his hair; we see him grow hair back and lose it again when he ages up, and the last time he had hair, he was about as tall as Wally or the usual 6 year old on the show, meaning it's been about 5 years since then, and Sector Z was Delightfulized at the same age as they are in appearance as Delightful Children, meaning at the very least, they're 5 years older than they appear, or more.
I know I stated this while writing about the Delightful Children, but it's very hard to say something about characters we know so little about without retreading over things from their evil counterparts.
And judging from their rather darker attire than most of the Kids Next Door operative wear, I feel safe saying they came from a different time period where things were... not as great for the KND as they are now, and that's saying something. They're more ready for battle and armored up than most, even the high up operatives in the current KND don't keep ammo belts on them at all times. Adding to that, as I said, their Numbuh's are specifically the closest numbers to 0 that are in single digit decimals, being 0.1 to 0.5. They resemble more closely Monty and his friends apparel in the flashback than the modern KND.
We know that Benedict/Father was at least an adult when they were Delightfulized, so that places their Delightfulization between at most 10 or 20 years after Monty was decommissioned and at least 5 years before the series started, and I'd err to the higher numbers... We don't know how old either Monty or Benedict are, but Monty is balding over, and the appearance of their home life before the revolution was similar to the Industrial Revolution age.
But either way, once again, retreading the words I used for the Delightful Children, no matter how old they are or how long they've been kids, there's a distressing thing to remember.
The fact that they were Kids Next Door Operatives, not just for the fact that they were once children who stood ideologically opposed to everything that they are now, which is already a terrible fate. Children who once fought for the freedom of their fellow kids to have fun and grow up with the friends and adventures that the KND brings, who fought against Father and everyone like him, brainwashed and mentally abused into becoming less than individuals, children who live to do exactly as adults wish them to, who hate children just as much as Father does, to do Father's bidding and fight to force children to suffer and to force them to grow up before their time. But that? That's not the worst part of them being former KND operatives.
It means that they had families.
They're not siblings. Their not Father's biological children.. well, that should be rather obvious. but the implications of that are more when you think about it. Father 'adopted' them, which means, in reality, he kidnapped these five children. Five children with five separate families who would never, ever see them again. Five families who lost their children and would never know why. Five families who... might not be around anymore. With the possibility of it being years, their families might be old and consider them lost, they'd never recognize their little children, when they're all old and yet as Delightful Children, they are just the same age as they've always been and always will be. Assuming their parents haven't passed away, either, equally possible. Either way, these children won't ever see them again.
There's no evidence that Nigel ever kept his word to "Tell the Kids Next Door.... we miss them!" ... the last words Sector Z will ever say, now that the Recommissioning Module is broken, so their last wishes will likely forever remain unfulfilled, seeing as Nigel is long gone and in the Galactic Kids Next Door....
Their last words were heard by only one person, and that one person never told anyone.

It's too bad we never got to see more of them as Sector Z. And Constance or the girl with the sunglasses, never talked in that movie.

I have been thinking: if Father's Delightfulization Chamber  that he used on them had its power increased "eleventy-billionfold" in his words, then  what if the KND captured the Delightful Children, and put them into an Chamber that could Delightfulize, but put in reverse, and then increased the power to the same that Delightfulized them. I'm pretty sure, that may very well be able to restore sector Z, to their former glory, this time permanently.

I want to say, may they rest in peace, but they're not dead...

I doubt even the best Homestuck Sylph of Mind (a Healer Class, able to heal your thoughts and choices) could heal them completely. Maybe return their memories, but trauma like that... that's a scar more permanent than Harry Potter's.

Therapy, something to get an operative to physically enter their minds and surgically remove the programming, a long stay in the psych ward, maybe spend time with family, followed by stepping down from active KND duty.

StarryOak In reply to experimentalDeity [2016-10-18 05:07:57 +0000 UTC]

Well, the programming isn't just mental
do you remember how Lenny's helmet grew back over his head from his braces? Or how he made a squelching sound when he reassimilated, or that sector z got physically pulled back together?
plus they physically mime the actions of one another, even if they have no object in their hands, they'll mime eating it as if they share a stomach.
also the eternal youth....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

experimentalDeity In reply to StarryOak [2016-10-19 21:18:21 +0000 UTC]

Well, they're not gonna be CONSCIOUS while someone's rooting around their heads. So... surgery at the same time!

Side note, you ever notice just how SMART every KND member is at the end of the day? Numbah 4 got into frikkin' HARVARD LAW if I recall INTERVIEWS correctly. They built rayguns out some wood, scrap metal, and a green bottle! Made a lunar base and space ships from a box of scraps! If it wasn't for decommisioning, every single teen and adult KND member could change the world for the better!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StarryOak In reply to experimentalDeity [2016-10-19 22:19:56 +0000 UTC]

how do you do surgery on a metaphysical abstract connection between a hive mind?
And yes, they are!
ok but they also use duct tape
but they also, like Cree and Chad, make the world a worse place
I mean, Father KNOWS about the KND and has KND traitors on his side, and
he's Father
And the G:KND is a subset of the KND and may have helped found the first KND age on earth, but they also plan to annihilate the earth because it has too many adults.
Just saying.
