Description
Yeah. I went there. In case you're wondering, yes I ship it.This is Marble Hornet, film student and daughter of an architect and a beekeeper (that's how she got her name)... And.... that thing is.... It has no name. But they say he responds to the name Slendermane. No one knows where he came from or what he is. And Marble is in the unfortunate position of finding out.
---
I was only trying to film a documentary on the Apple Family's history. All I wanted was to interview Goldie Delicious and go on my way. I don't exactly know how I got here; everything's a blur... One second I was walking along the path, and suddenly the world flashed a bright white and I was face to face with this.... thing. I fell to the ground and stared up at it in horror. I looked up at it and recognized a business suit, and I let my guard down. He was only a very tall stallion... But then I looked into his face. At first I thought he had closed his eyes, but I came to realize that he... no, it, had none at all. Empty sockets where its eyes should have been. I tried to scream, I tried to get up, but I was frozen in terror and I couldn't hear my own voice. I looked around for escape, but found that the dirt path that had lead me to Goldie's house was gone. I couldn't see anything but the tall monstrous stallion in front of me. It didn't breathe, didn't move, and for a second I thought it was a statue. But it slowly leaned down its head and I felt chills go down my spine. It said nothing as it stared at me, somehow I knew it was looking at me, even without eyes. I managed to squeak out a small, terrified whimper.
"Wha-what are you?" I asked.
It said nothing.
"Where am I?" I pleaded with it, my wings locked to my sides.
Once again, it stayed silent.
"What do you want from me?" I asked. I knew the answer I would get.
It stayed silent once more.
It gave me time to ponder my fate. I gave up all hope of ever moving again, perhaps I would be trapped by my silent captor for eternity... I didn't know. Just as I was accepting of my fate, it moved. Well, it didn't move. There was a bright flash of light once more as it reappeared in front of me, and suddenly I saw what had changed; it had four long black tentacles growing out of it's coat, somehow distinguishable from the inky black void I was trapped in. It wrapped one tentacle around my hoof and I felt its cold shadowy blackness on my fur. I can't describe what it felt like beyond that, I don't believe there is a word for how it felt. I didn't have the energy to scream, nor did I think it would do any good. It wrapped another around my mane and I felt myself being pulled up until my snout pressed against its. Just when I thought it would eat me, I felt a cold slithering sensation around my flank, and my wings snapped open against my will. It wrapped around my hind leg, constricting and winding until my entire flank was in its grasp. I felt my cheeks go hot as I looked up at it in terror.
"...Ḣ̭̪̃ͫ̂͠e̮̦̠̓̾͐̄̍̐l̸̤̱l̖̬̱̰̭͚ō̠͉." It said, and everything went black.
---
I have no idea what I just wrote, but I feel icky.
Enjoy the nightmare fuel. I'm sorry. Marble Hornet can be seen here . And Slendermane can be seen in Pinkie Apple Pie, here.
I apologize deeply.

...Once again, I've found an image that simply deserves a fic. Aside from my love of creepysexy situations, and the obvious implications of this image, there might also be a good story in Marble dealing with the aftermath and consequences of her encounter, while dealing with the horror not knowing what really happened after everything went black.
Hmm...

Altogether tempting, although I'd have to delve into of the Slenderman[e] mythos in order to properly narrate the horror felt by a mare who has such an abomination for a suitor... but it might just be worth it!

Roseluck: The horror! The horror!
That being said, there's a surprising (or not-so-surprising) number of Slendermane fics where he turns out to be friendly. Would totally be funny to write a story where everything he does winds up as creepy despite not meaning it to. Like, Marble walks into her home, sees it's dark except for a few candles in the dining room, and out of the darkness looms Slendermane... and she panics and flees, leaving Slendermane wondering what went wrong with his plan for a romantic candlelit dinner...

I think he has a sort of a Blue and Orange Morality in this universe. Considering MLP's tone, it makes sense for him to be less threatening than in Slenderman canon, but I always imagine he has a strange, twisted, still screwed up and kind of wrong way of thinking... Even though he's probably trying to do something nice, normal ponies don't consider a nice ritual sacrifice to be romantic.

Well, I am a fan of eldritch abominations and Lovecraftian horror, and Blue and Orange Morality is something I love to see when done well - that being said, I'm not sure Lovecraft himself did it all that well. It's hard to have a being with a genuinely alien mindset without making it either actually evil, or insane. Admittedly, and I've always preferred "Lovecraft Lite" or a setup where just because they're alien doesn't mean they're incomprehensible or even necessarily hostile - just strange and requiring caution.
That reminds me - one video I saw about Slenderman in MLP mentioned that while the Slenderman mythos is recent, it has precedence in stories in folklore about tall, thin men, some of whom even steal children. It reminds me of some depictions of the Fair Folk, or yokai, or any category of mysterious and intelligent beings in folklore I classify as "Fey." A lot of tales of Fey, far from modern tales of adorable pixies, depict them as having their own alien mindset - sometimes terrifyingly so - being subject to Blue and Orange Morality doesn't stop them from being malevolent or even evil. The best depiction of Blue and Orange Morality I've encountered is in fact of Fey - the Sidhe in King Arthur the Roleplaying Wargame, based on the Aos Sí of Irish lore, where they not only alien in a believable fashion, but you can also gain a rough understanding of them, enough to be able to interact with them in a beneficial way.
What does all that mean? I'm beginning to enjoy thinking of Slendermane as, within the context of MLP, a being of magical but otherwise origin, so separate from the creation of ponies that its very mind works differently, as well as its body and its powers, like an idea that a creator threw in with no regard for how the rest of reality worked. Perhaps its creation occurred in the hidden locations in which it remains, far from the eyes of the gods - or perhaps it's older than the gods themselves. Either way, its very context is so different from ponies that its very presence terrifies them. Perhaps it's good, then, that it secludes itself away from ponies most of the time - because its interactions with ponies have not always ended well for the latter. And when it seems to take an interest in an amateur pony film student, its intentions are not only unknown... but perhaps also irrelevant, in terms of how the pony feels about it...
...In addition to my interest of Fey, I also like those beings I term "Abominations" - oddities whose existence has no real explanation, like Tom Bombadil or the Watcher in the Water, both from The Lord of the Rings - and while such beings aren't necessarily hostile (like Tom), I haven't decided how this story will end for Marble Hornet - even if I figure out Slendermane's motivations, on even a basic level.

I also like the 'lighter and softer' sort of take on eldritch horror you could do, while still keeping, you know, the horror, it's just that, well... ponies have different standards for horror than we do. And the idea of this completely alien thing that just doesn't work the same way and doesn't think the same way as ponies wanting a relationship seems so... in character for MLP. It could still be just as horrific, but at it's core, it'd be true to MLP in that even though Slendermane is some horrific abomination, it has some desires like a relationship, though probably not quite in the way most do, or in a realistically good or not horrific way... or with necessarily reciprocated feelings not coming from Stockholm's syndrome, it still wants something resembling a relationship. Because in MLP, friendship is magic and near everything in some way can be befriended.... it just might not be a healthy way for this case.

Yeah - it'd very much be in tune with FiM's theme that even despite such huge differences between beings, things like the desire for friendship are universal. Even I believe that any rational being, on some level, would have analogues for things like pleasure, pain, desire, and fear - basic things that help us to choose some actions over others. I believe that something like Slendermane would be "alien" only to a certain extent.
And it's interesting that you mention that, because shortly after making that last post I came up with a working motivation for Slendermane that I wasn't sure whether to use - but after reading what you said I've decided to implement it. It is, I admit, based somewhat on one of my favorite games in terms of message, Metro 2033... and it's kind of a spoiler to mention any further, a rather huge one in fact, so I won't continue unless asked or PMed.
...Then again, the game has some applicable quotes even if you never encounter the spoilers. To quote Khan, most awesome human being in any post-apocalyptic game ever: "Wicked phenomenon, yes? But, you know, it’s not any more "evil" than, say… fire. It all depends on your point of view. Try to get a better understanding of things before you make your judgement."
As an aside, I love how "metro 2033 khan quotes" is a top suggestion on Google once you so much as type "metro 2033 k".

The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.
