BEFORE YOU LEAP AT THE COMMENTS SECTION TO COMPLAIN TO ME ABOUT HER NAME/CUTIE MARK, READ THIS.You may be asking a question here; why does she still have Snips' cutie mark and why is she not named Sugar, if she's the line that matches Snips? The thing I have about genderswapping is the cardinal rule for me; never change a ponies cutie mark. Time and time again, we've seen how important cutie marks are to ponies. They are their destinies, their talents, and their personality. Changing cutie marks, at least for me personally, is out of the question. It's not like other people have to agree with me on this, everyone does their own thing, but in the future, keep in mind that I will never mess with a cutie mark. No matter what gender the character is, I will keep their cutie mark the same. So there's that out of the way.
Secondarily, on her name, I chose to name her Spice instead of Sugar because Snips generally seems like the brains of the operation, and also something just fits, especially with it having an 'i' in the name. Snails' name fits more with Sugar and Snips' fits more with Spice, both personality-wise and namewise.
Designwise, I gave her the model of a genderly ambiguous background foal because it was more feminine. I gave her pigtails to match Sugar's and her eyebrows are much less prominent.
Sugar and Spice fill a slightly different role in their portrayal, though. The focus on their clumsy stupidity is shifted, while both are still stupid, the focus is on their fangirling over Trixter, and they get their manes stuck together during 'Magic Duel', as well as in 'Ponyville Confidential', making 'Magic Duel' have a continuity nod to the prior episodes.
