Description
impossible, improbable, impermanent~
There were a bunch of fires in NM this summer and at one point there was so much ash that it became a health hazard. I came back towards the end of it (I was gone to another state), but I managed a couple cool shots where the sun is red through the ash in the sky.

Before reading your description, I thought there was something gorgeous but eerily melancholy and frightening about this image. It's funny how that comes across even without knowing the setting of the photo. I REALLY appreciate your cropping here. At first I thought it felt odd and would have looked nicer cropped a bit more closely to the sun, but the more I look at it, the more I love it as it is. That negative space (filled with smoke) on the top and left edges is part of what makes it so beautifully unsettling.

I'm glad you find it as eerie as I do! Now imagine the whole sky that color!

Marvelous shot!
Makes me miss the red skies of Florida.

This is beautiful, but I was so scared when I saw the smoke from the fires!

I thought it was really interesting, but I didn't see much because I wasn't in town until the end of it.
Thanks

I actually live in Los Alamos and we had to evacuate, it was soooo hard to breathe up here! I wish I would have gotten some shots-- as terrifying as it was, it was really beautiful to look at. The day we evacuated, everything looked really hazy, like the scene in a pre-apocalyptic movie or something. I wish it was possible to have that kind of atmosphere without it being such a threat to everybody and everything.
Great shot! I really like the lighting, how the tree/bush is almost blackened into a silhouette and the sun is dulled by the ashy sky.

Wow, that sounds intense. I did hear about the evacuation, but that must have sucked. =/
Thanks for the wonderful comment

It was kind of nervewracking, but I tried to take in light of more like a forced vacation-- my best friend and I had evacuated to the same town and so we basically just spent our time running around ABQ, haha (Los Alamos doesn't have anything fun to do so we pretty much lived in the mall lmao) I'm just glad the firefighters were able to save everything.
No problem! It was a great shot! ^^
